Sportsmanship
Good sportsmanship is very
important to our school and our
team. When we are playing in a
footbal game and we hear our own
fans yelling bad things at the
referees, it makes everyone on the
field angry. Of course it is
important to win,, but the main
thingis that we play our best and
be good sports. Referees don’t
always see everything happening
on the field, but I’m sure they do
their best to be fair. They know
how important it is to each
member of both teams to win. I
understand that some people lose
their cool, but bad sportsmanship
: makes our school and our team
look bad.
everything you can in the game of
life. I think sportsmanship is
earned through fair-play and
impartiality. Without fair-play and
impartiality, I’m afraid a person
could never gain a quality such as
sportsmanship.
Understand the importance of
sportsmanship and take the time to
learn it. I guarantee that it’s a
trait worth having.

Sportsmanship: Where Is It?
Today’s sports are becoming
more and more competitive as time
goes on. This makes the athletes,
as well as the fans, want to win no
matter what. Winning starts
becoming more important than the
rules and fair play of the game.
The sportsmanship of most of
the people is dwindling quickly,
which is bad for the fans and
players. Yelling at the referees
during the games about all the
“wrong” calls they’ve made seems
to be more important than the
game itself. If the fan’s team
doesn’t win, they say the other
team was too rough or, the
referees weren’t fair.
It’s terrible to see fans and
athletes yell and bicker about
things that can’t be changed. If a
call is made, it is made, and can’t
be changed. So why do people
gripe about calls in football or
basketball games? Maybe someday
someone will understand, and
sports will once again be just for
fun.

Sportsman And Life
Sportsmanship is something that
every young person should learn at
some time in his life. Everyone has
his own opinion about life’s
greatest virtues, but I believe that
sportsmanship ranks with the
highest of all virtues.
Many people believe that being
a good sport is something that is
only important in a game situation.
I believe a value such as
sportsmanship is something that
not only prepares you for life, but

Sportsmanship 6
Sportsmanship is one of those A
topics that can be taken as either w
good or bad. Good sportsmanship %
is something that I think we should A
all possess, and that must of us 8
do. But during some of those 6
“trying times”, like in a basketball A
game, bad sportsmanship over- 8
comes us a little. If we take a step S
backward and try to correct it, A
maybe this problem wouldn’t exist. 8
Not to be criticizing, but I think S
poor sportsmanship starts with the A
adults as a general rule. As the R
younger generation becomes-older, 8
they accept this bad trait of poor a
sportsmanship and pass it on to R
the next generation. This has been 8
repeated over and over, and I A
believe it will still be repeated in R
future years unless we correct it %
now. *
I think poor sportsmanship is
found in most all of us, and I |
believe it leaves a bad name on
our community and athletes. I
don’t think we can stop it
instantly, but I do believe we can
make a drastic change in our poor
behavior if we just use a little
more control.
Scott Ward
The Winning Game
What is sportsmanship? The
Webster dictionary defines sports-
manship as being able to take loss
or defeat without complaint, or
victory without gloating. A sports-
man treats his opponents with
fairness, generosity, and courtesy.
We can read these words and be
aware of what sportsmanship is,
but why is it that our actions
always fall short of this definition.
I believe that we too often put
the will to win on a pedestal by
itself and forget who we are.
Winning becomes the only impor-
tant thing in our life, and this
dramatically changes our actions
and who we are. The activities and
games we are involved in should
be helpful, challenging and enjoy-
able, but not the key to our life.
When things seem to go wrong,
we blame others and find excuses
instead of looking in ourselves to
find the real solution. The will to
win is a great thing to possess, but
not when it becomes the only
attitude or rule for our life.
Life is full of many games and
challenges, but to win at these
isn’t the key that opens the door.
The key that opens the door is
sportsmanship, which means being
who you are and becoming all you
were meant to be. It may take long
strides to reach this definition of
sportsmanship, but I think at the
finish-line we’ll all be winners.
