Austin -- In accordance with
state law, Texas businesses must
render their property with
county appraisal districts by

Sharp noted. "They are ensur-

Sharp also announced that
property owners who had prop-
erty damaged by a storm, flood
or fire last year may file a spe-
cial decreased value report that
could lower their final tax bills.
Property owners in Southeast
Texas, who were hit hard by
severe flooding in November,
may file the decreased value re-
port about their property's con-
dition on January 1,1995.
Property owners may ask the
chief appraiser for additional
time-through May 1-ifthe own-
ers can demonstrate good cause.
The chief appraiser must grant
owners of property regulated by
the Public Utility Commission
or the Railroad Commission on
extension to May 1 to file the
- reports and may extend the
i deadline another 15 days if the
. owners request it in writing and
show good cause.
On the renditions, property
owners can record their opin-
ions of their property's value. By
stating their opinion, property
owners make sure that the ap-
praisal district sends them a
notice before placing a higher
value on their property. This
notice allows property owners
the time to gather information
to protest the appraisal if they
believe the appraisal district's
value is too high.
If more than one appraisal
district appraises a property, the
property owner should render
in each appraisal district office.
