Boykin Feed Co., with a design by Cornelia Boykin, constructed this huge Thanksgiving
turkey nest to the store on Fourth Street and West Front in downtown Goldthwaite.
Starting with a large round bale of hay, adding some windmill vanes and then painting
the face completed the bird. In front is an assortment of fall gourds and pumpkins.
Second grade classes of Goldthwaite Elementary have been studying Indians in honor of
the Thanksgiving season. In the photo above the kids paused after their traditional
Indian meal to have their picture taken. Their activities included making vests, headbands,
weaving, and completing the event with a ‘pow wow’. They learned Indian sign language
and did Indian painting. Kay Grebe showed the kids how pottery is made and they all
made a pot and a Christmas ornament. Theresa Salazar came and showed the classes how
to make flour tortillas in the authentic method of the Indians. They enjoyed the tortillas
with their meal. Teachers are Kay Mills, Shelley Horton and Darla Williams.
