Goldthwaite High School's
Golden Eagle Band was repre-
sented at the State level of com-
petition last Saturday, June 1, by
the twirlers, who performed in
the Texas State Solo and En-
semble Contest. All the girls per-
formed together in the ensemble
competition and received first
division medals The GHS twirl-
ers include Connie Watson Mela-
nie Head, Michelle Stewart, and
Jennifer Covington.
Kip Thompson received his
Bachelor of Science Degree in
Agricultural Economics with a
Agribusiness option from Texas
A&M University on May 11,1991.
Chad and Julie Boykin of Gold-
thwaite proudly announce the
birth of their first child, a girl,
Maurica Wylie. Maurica was born
Wednesday, May 22, 1991 at
Brownwood Regional Hospital.
Teachers of the Goldthwaite
Junior High School each year se-
lect the top boy and girl in the
Seventh and eighth grade classes.

in the 10-day course of swimming
instructions conducted at the
Mills Co. Pool for the 1971 sea-

A pie auction, held at Ridge
Friday night, brought in $522.75
to be used to improve the Ridge
Community house interior.
U.S. Postal Service Day will be
observed at the Goldthwaite post
office Thursday, July 1, with free ;
coffee for visitors, postmaster

Mills County State Bank will
have formal opening of their new
bank building on the west side of
the courthouse square this com-
ing Sunday, June 11. Bank offi-
cials, directors and personnel, will
be hosts for the open house which
will get underway with ribbon
cutting ceremonies.
Mrs. J.T. Allen of Lamesa was
a guest of her son, Mr. and Mrs.
Del Sears and family the first of
the week.
Miss Beverly Ann Raney,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude
B. Raney of Longview, became
the bride of Richard Loren Lester,
Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. in
Longview.
The first eight days of June
have shown some change from
the past two months. In Goldth-
waite 1.78 inches of rain was re-
corded over the past weekend.
H. B. Davis variety store has
scheduled an after-remodeling
open house sale for next week
June 16 and 17.
The third annual invitational
rodeo sponsored by the Goldth-
waite FFA Chapter will be held
at the Jernigan Arena, June 22,
23, 24.
Lillie Jones
Laid To Rest .

Lillie Jones of the Democrat
Community in Mills County, •
Texas, died Saturday, June 2,
2001 at Brownwood Regional
Medical Center, Brownwood,
Texas. She was 90 years of age.
Mrs. Jones was born April 15,
1911 at Democrat to George and
Mary (Seoggins) Tomlinson.
She married Robert Glenn
(Dick) Jones on July 21, 1930 in
Waurika, Oklahoma.
She was a resident ofthe Demo-
crat Community most of her life.
She was a Baptist and a home-
maker.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in
death by her husband, Dick Jones,
who died in 1996.
Survivors are’ two daughters
and husbands, Peggy and Charles *
“Bud” Rose of Brownwood and
Mary Alice and Tom Stalcup of
Enid, Oklahoma; five grand chil-
dren; and seven great grand chil-
dren.
The funeral was Tuesday, June
5,2001 at 10:00 a.m. at the Stacy-
Wilkins Funeral Home Chapel in
Goldthwaite. Steve Baker offici-
ated at the final rites. Interment
was in the Democrat Cemetery in
Mills County, Texas. .
Pallbearers included Chad
Stalcup, Ray Dodson, Clifton
Rose, Mark Stevenson, and Bill
Arts.
