WINDOWS FOR REMY
Bert Striegler met me at the museum in Brady the other day to
tell me about windows for the cathedral at Remy, a city just north
of Paris, France that has become Brady's sister city.
"The story goes back to World War Two when a young man
from Brady, Houston Lee Braley Jr. volunteered into the Air Force,
became a P-51 pilot and was killed while strafing a German train
that was parked on the tracks near Remy.
"The flight leader was a man named Roy Blaha, who has been Mason and formally of Priddy
here on numerous occasions. Roy went in first to strafe this cam- graduated Friday, April 30, in
ouflaged train. He fired at the full length of the train and nothing the Shaeffer Full Life Center

Germans knew the Americans were already on the ground in
Normandy and things weren't going well for Germany.
"The explosion of the train blew all the windows out of the
cathedral at Remy. They were stained glass windows that were
built into the cathedral during the middle ages.
"The windows stayed unrepaired until 1995, when Houston Lee's
old fighter group, the 364th, decided to raise the money to restore
the cathedral windows. They thought they'd need a quarter of a
million dollars to do it. They started a fund called WINDOWS
FOR REMY and had all the money raised within two years. The
windows are now completely restored."
The people from Remy have sent three separate delegations to
Brady and visited the museum which has a display case devoted

Adrenal Fatigue
Adrenal Fatigue results when the adrenal glands cannot adequately
meet the demands of stress. Normally, cortisol levels rise in response
to increased pain, inflammation, psychological and emotional stress
and trauma, but in individuals with Adrenal Fatigue, they often de-
cline. Adrenal Fatigue affects approximately 80% of people living in
industrialized countries, and is an important contributing factor in
health conditions ranging from allergies to obesity, yet most health
professionals are unaware of its existence and far-reaching effects.
Signs and symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue include a general sense of
“unwellness”, mild depression, difficulty waking in the morning, fre-
quent respiratory problems, and premature aging. Healing can take
months, and should include proper nutritional support and lifestyle
changes. Restoration of adrenal balance will improve response to all
hormones, according to James L. Wilson, Ph.D., author of Adrenal
Fatigue: The 21st Century Stress Syndrome. More information is avail-
able at www.adrenalfatigue.com.

If the Legislature approves

State worker turnover high...
Cuts in state employee benefits
made during the last regular ses-
sion of the Legislature have come
home to roost with a high turn-
over rate that has cost taxpayers
as much as $267 million, the
State Auditor's Office has re-
ported.
Turnover among state workers
reached 17.4 percent in 2003, the
audit report said.
"Pushed to the financial break-
ing point, state employees are
taking their skills to other em-
ployers," Texas Public Employ-
ees Association executive direc-
tor Gary Anderson said.
Anderson urged the state to
find a way to give state employ-
ees a 3.5 percent raise in Septem-
ber. And when the Legislature
meets in regular session in Janu-
ary, he said the association will
be asking for a 4.5 percent pay
hike for each year of the bien-
nium.
Numbers not kind to Perry, ei-
ther...
Gov. Rick Perry got some bad
news last week with the release
of the spring Texas Poll. The poll
showed his approval rating had
dropped to only 37 percent, the
lowest any governor has had in
more than a decade. Speaker
Craddick's report card was even
worse: Only 25 percent of those
polled by Scripps-Howard
thought he was doing a good job
for the people of Texas.
The poll also indicated Texans
are not pleased with the Legisla-
ture, which got a 23 percent ap-
proval rating.
Each party spun the numbers
to its benefit. The Democrats said
Perry and his colleagues had
failed Texas schoolchildren,
schools and taxpayers. The
governor's office countered that
Perry doesn't make his decisions
based on polls, and that the
choices he has faced have not
been easy ones.
The numbers that count, of
course, will be the 2006 election
returns.
