Important extensions of both the
Archer and Electra fields, indicated
by developments last week, gave a
further buoyant tone to operations
in the North Texas field, which is
now witnessing exceptional activity
in both the proven areas and in
wild-cat and semi-wildcat sections.
The Staley well on the Green
tract in Archer, and the Guit's AP: y
parent discovery on the John and
Jeff Waggoner ranch at Electra are
the latest fruits of the extensive
drilling campaign and “furnish in-
teresting extensions of the two
fields. Not the least interesting of
the week's oil happenings was the

the Petersen well on the Wilson

lack of storage and is waiting on
the arrival of the four-inch line

is extending to the well. The same
company has made three additional

Local, oll men are still keeping
a weather eye on the events at
Austin where the gross production
tax on oil is still undetermined.
The belief prevails here that even
if the tax is not put above two
per cent at the regular session, the
governor will cause the matter to
be reopened at the called session,
so that eventually a tax of two and
a half or three cents may be im-

CANS WEL
M'LBAN, TEXAS, March 10.-
Alanreed was athrilF-with excite-
ment early this week due to the
fact that at a depth of 3134 feet,
the smith No. 1 of the American Re-
fining Company, located one mile
north of that city, changed from a
red gravel wash formation to gray
lime. Later another favorable
change took place when, at 3153
feet, blue shale and small amounts
of gew gas were: encountred. All
day cars of interested people from
all over the Panhandle visited the
well, something which shows how
closely the well in being watched.
With the present good indication
for oll, the Smith No. 1 bids fair to
outstrip its two rival wells of the
Panhandle which have been so
much in the limelight for the last
several weeks—the Whittington No.
1 Sanford, located on section 83,
block 46, in Hutchinson county,
now drilling around 2800 feet, and
the Stone Tipton McConald, located
in Carson county, eight miles
southwest of Pampa, n
Contracts are now pending the
drilling of a well on the J. S. Morse
ranch, 14 miles north of the city
of McLean. The acreage demanded
for this well is less than half that
which heretofore has been de-
manded for the drilling of new
wells in this section of the Pan-
handle. This, together with the
fact that W. W. Silk and associates
of Wichita Falls are now making
plans and contracts for the con-
struction of a large storage tank
for their producing well in Carson
county, are great and favorable in-
dications that the Panhandle is
looked upon favorably by the oil
world as a wildcat territory, of
great possibilities. 1
” The Whittington No. 1 Sanford,
section 83, block 46, in Hutchinson
county is now drilling around 2800
feet: this well continues to be the
center of ell interest in the north
field, and, due to the fact that it is
following, closely the log of the
Carson county producing wells, it
is expected to be one of the first
new wells that will be brought in
within the next few weeks.
Another promising well in the
northfield is the Plains Oil Com-
pany's No. 1 Weatherly, section 17,
block Y: the well is now drilling
at around 2.000 Yeet. and • is also
logging with the producing wells
just to its south and east.
Report comes that drilling is to
be resumed during the next week
or 10 days on the C. C. Campbell
No. 1 on the Y O U ranch, eight
miles southeast of McLean. S
Material is now being hauled to
the Texas No. 1, located on. the
Saunders land, just south of Le-
fore. the: county seat of Gray
county.

drilled two feet into when the well

the output to between 800 and 860

the No. 1 Hirschi was discovered.

usual 1886 foot pay and is swab-

Two good producers making 50
barrels each from the sand at 1580
feet, several new locations made
and a number of new tests drilling
was the gist of the week's de-
velopment in the Burkburnett terri-
tory. A great amount of oil field
work of all discriptions vis being
done on the hundreds of old leases
throughout the district and many of,
the wells which have declined have
been cleaned out and are'making an
increase in the runs daily, as . is
shown by a gain of 1200 barrels
since the previous week's figures.
On the Sides farm, southeast of

An Opportunity
You have had many of them, but few to own a coun-
try home, on paved highway, two to two and one-
half miles of the city, consisting of one acre or more,
at prices that will double in value in short time,
with terms that you can meet.
The woodall Subdivision, offers the last opportunity
of being within two miles of the business center and
live in the country h
You had better look into this at once, as it will soon
be sold, and your opportunity GONE.
