The French Market Coffee '
"Drinkers Could Not Be Fooled
Only the wonderful mountain-elds coffee from Jamaica, blended
with choicest berries from Guatemala, Venezuela and the Pan-
American countries, would satisfy them. Cheap coffees could
not be combined into that marvelously smooth and deliciously
aromatic beverage that has been served for over a century at the
French Market in New Orleans. -
“Voyons!" C’est is mime que nous avons bus Paris?*
(“Behold! /fii the same sr we drank in Paris!"’)
one emigre would say to another as they sipped their coffee in
the French Market.

SOME HISTORY BEHIND
JOHN BAKER’S HOME RUNS.
When John "Franklin Baker clouted
Matty and Marquard for those hero-
lo homers last October, not one in
1,000,060 knew that behind those her-
culean hits’ was a little story.
Last summer wee Donnie Bush of
the Tigers had a bat that looked like
one of Zbyszco’s legs. It waa a war
club that would make a Fiji Island-
er’s eyes sparkle. It took a man with
shoulders to wield the bludgeon and
Donnie, who is only a human mite,
found that he had much trouble to
lift the stick.
* Baker happened along and got to
talking to Donnie, and picked up the
latter's bat. He swung the bat around
and got stuck on it right away." "
"Want that 'stick, , Bake?” Bush
said.
“Sure I do," came back the Mack-
man's reply to the tiny Tiger.
"It's yours," said Bush.
That was the stick that Baker used
to pole those four-basers, and that's
the model that he used when he or-
dered a dozen of the same sort last
winter.
LEFT HANDED BATTERS
AND SOUTHPAW PITCHERS.
Doc. White, the lef-handed pitcher
of the Chicago White Sox, has a con-
vincing answer for the everlasting
question: “Why can’t a left-handed
batter successfully hit a southpaw
twirler?"- *
White's answer to the query was:
"It's the simplest thing in the world.
The majority of pitchers in, the big
leagues are right-handed, are they
not?# When you were a kid and play-
ed lots, the majority of pitchers then
were right faded, were they not!"
Admitting that, isn't it reasonable
to Assume that a ball player, from his
earliest days to the time he gets in-
to the big leagues hits against the
right-handed pitchers twice as often
as he does against southpaw?
"Well, that's the answer, and that's
all there is to it.
‘“If the big leagues should decide to
carry half a dozen left-handed pitch-
ers and only one or two right-handers,
you would find that in the course of
a very short time all these fellows
who cannot hit;left-handed pitchers
would soon be able to solve the port-
side shoots.
“Take Cy Cobb, for instance," says
White “I used to pitch against him
when he first broke into the Ameri-
can league. He was the easiest kind
of a proposition for me. But now—
well. I can’t fool him any more, and
no other left-hander can; I don’t care
who he is.
.“It is claimed Hint Vean Gregg, the
Cleveland southpaw, was the only
man who could serve up something.
Ty could bit Isst season. This may be
true, but you can gamble that if Gregg
stays in the American league very
long Cobb will be able to get him.”
REFERS TO ROOSEVELT’S -
VIEW# ON RECIPROSITY.
By Associated Press.
Dexter City, Ohio, May 13.— When
Taft remarked here today he “under-
stood this was a Roosevelt town," a
man yelled back “It is.” “They say
you are against me because 1 favored
reciprocity," said Tafy, "You are utter
ly Illogical in opposing me on that
ground because before I entered into
it, Roosevelt commended me most
highly for going Into the business and
approved It in every way. Now that
he finds reciprocity Is not popular
with the farmers he repents and says
that—well, he has changed his mind.”

CLEAN SWEEP OF
DURANT SERIES
DRILLERS TAKE THIRD GAME,
WINNING EASILY BY SCORE
‘ OF FIVE TO ONE.
ARE NOW IN SECOND PLACE
Bobby Myers Pitches Masterly Game,
Keeping Hite Scattered and
Striking Out Eleven Men.
Special to the Times:
Durant. Okla, May 14. — Wichita
Falls made a clean sweep of the ser-
ies here, winning the third and last
game yesterday afternoon by a score
of 5 to 1. Yesterday’s victories mov-
ed the Drillers into second place in
the percentage column, with only Bon-
ham between them and the first sta-
lion.
Bobby Myers pitched yesterday's
game and while he was reached for
eight hits, they were widely scattered
and netted only one score. He sent
eleven Durant players back to the
bench on strike-outs and seemed to be
in splendid form. Naylor is still on
the injured list and Chapman work-
ed behind the bat again today.
The Drillers left last night for
Greenville for a series of four games.
Ah me! I saw a huge and loathsome sty,
Wherein a drove of wallowing swine
were barred.
Whose banquet shocked the nostril and
—the-eye--------------------------
Then spoke a voice, “Behold the source
. of lard !”----2--
I fled, and saw a field that seemed at first Brown, rf
One glistening mass of roses pure am'
white, *
With dewy buds ‘mid dark green foliage
pursed:
And, as 1 lingered o’er the lovely sight,
The summer breeze, that cooled that
Southern scene.
Whispered, “Behold the source of COT-
TOLENE!”
Since leaving home they played sev-
on games, winning six and if they are
able to keep up this pace for awhile
first place will be theirs. Yester-
