CHS stuns district favorites, 44-14

COMFORT - After holding
Randolph to just 150 total yards
and frustrating the Ro-Hawks in
the process, Comfort rolled to a
44-14 victory Friday night in the
district opener for both teams.
The Ro-Hawks were a 14-
point favorite going into the
contest and were pre-
dicted to be the team
to beat in District 27-
2A, but the Bobcats
stunned them as they
jumped out with an
early lead.
Randolph received

up five first downs before quar-
terback Luke Roberts scored
from four yards out with 3:27
left to play in the first. This was
Roberts’ first start this season
after being sidelined for an
ankle injury. Gabe Lozano’s
PAT was good giving Comfort a
7-0 lead.

utes later Randolph

A battle-tested Boerne foot-
ball team rolled to a convincing
27-7 victory against Alamo
Heights Friday night at Grey-
hound Stadium before over
4,000 fans on a crisp Hill
Country night.
Boerne only brought a 3-2
record into Friday’s district
opener, but had faced a rugged
nondistrict schedule. BHS
quarterback Ryan Christianson
said the Greyhounds tough
schedule thus far had the team
prepared for the part of the sea-
son that really matters - dis-
trict.
“With our preseason we felt
like we were more battle-hard-
ened and felt like it would pay
off in the long run,” Christian-
son said. “We played some
hard 4A and hard 5A teams and

Boerne’s district title
hopes take a big hit
BY KERRY Barboza
■ Sports Editor
Boerne’s hopes of winning a
fourth straight district title in
volleyball suffered a setback
Friday night as the Lady
Hounds lost in five games to
Alamo Heights, 23-25, 25-16,
25-12, 20-25 and 18-16.
The victory by the Lady Mules
is their second over Boerne this
year and gives them a two-game
cushion over BHS with just four
district games left.
Alamo Heights is 6-0, while
Boerne and Medina Valley are
both 4-2.
While winning first place in
district is not mathematically
impossible for Boerne, it’s also
not very likely either after Fri-
day’s loss.
At this point, the only way
BHS can claim the 2005 title

match with Alamo Heights. The Lady Mules beat Boerne
for the second time this year to give them a commanding
