Tours planned to explain Boerne’s
Quality of Life Bond Propositions
Citizens for Boerne’s Quality of Life bond
proposal will host two tours of city facilities
and infrastructure on Saturday, April 28, to
provide interested residents more informa-
tion about the bond package and answer any
questions prior to early voting which begins
April 30.
The group formed to educate and advocate
the passage of the city’s five bond proposi-
tions on the May ballot,
The tour, which includes the police station,
fire station and library, as well as a walking
tour of proposed trails and sidewalks, will
be held from 9 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. that
day.
The schedule a tour of the police station
from 9 to 9:30 a.m.; a fire station tour from
walks.
Both tours will begin at the police station,
next to City Hall on Blanco Road. City staff
will be on hand to answer factual questions
regarding space limitations and future needs
and members of the CBQL will be on hand
at each facility to answer any other ques-
tions the public may want to ask.
“We want to provide Boerne residents with
as much information as they need to make
an informed decision at the polls regarding
these ballot propositions,” said Melissa
Haberstroh, member of the CBQL steering
committee and co-chairman of the now-dis-
banded, city-appointed bond committee.
“Beginning last October, a diverse group
of city residents came together to review a
9:45 to 10:15 a.m.
; and a tour of number of ideas for needed capital projects,
the library from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
At 11:05 a.m., a walking tour will leave
from Main Plaza for parks, trails and side-
walks for those interested and a general
question session
The tour will be repeated in the afternoon:
police station from 2 to 2:30 p.m.; fire sta-
tion from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m.; library from
3:30 to 4 p.m.; and at 4:05 p.m., Main Plaza
for walking tour of parks, trails and side-
and collectively devoted more than 300 vol-
unteer manhours to thinking through pro-
posed projects,” Haberstroh said.
“The five propositions, which touch upon
improving the quality of life in Boerne
through public safety, education, outdoor
space and cross-town walking connectivity,
were projects we felt would provide the
highest and quickest impact for all residents
life. We hope residents agree on May 12 and
vote for all five propositions,” she said.
The five ballot propositions include:
Proposition 1: $10.25 million to enlarge
the police station and renovate and expand
the current fire station;
Proposition 2: $5.0 million to build a new
municipal library;
Proposition 3: $830,000 to construct new
sidewalks;
Proposition 4: $1.99 million to build new
trails to help connect various sections of the
community
Proposition 5: $3.4 million to buy park
land and to renovate River Road Park.
If voters approve all five propositions by
voting “for,” the $21.7 million package will
have an estimated tax rate impact of .06
cents per $100 valuation.
For a property valued at $159,000, that
would be an additional $96 a year or $8 dol-
lars a month.
Members of the CBQL are also available
to meet individually at any time with any
resident interested in more information.
Call Robin Stauber at 249-2910 to reserve
time for an individual or a small group
in terms of seeing the master plan come to ' meeting with the committee.
