Love which won't stand up under a few rumors, false
or otherwise, was not worthwhile in the first place. Love
which is lacking in faith is not the enduring kind and
is short of the prime requisites to happiness.
So it was just as well that "Rejected" found out in
time. Some untruths on the part of one she considered
a friend, resulted in sending her sweetheart astray. How-
ever, she thinks he still loves her and wonders if he will
come back. +--
For about a year I went with a boy

WASHINGTON, Feb. 16.—Dis-
patches from Geneva, Tokio and
various parts of China are regard-
ed here as by far the most porten-
tons since Japan captured Muk-
den and began her invasion of
Manchuria Sept. 18. 1931, •
Japan's apparently irrevocable
decision to sever connection with
the League of Nations and barri-
eade herself, so to speak, against
the rest of the world in the Far
East, is seen as the gravest turn
the Sino-Japanese imbroglio has
yet taken.
—-NipON'scourse, as indicated
by her spokesmen, can not fail to
bring her into new and pertious
collision with the nowers signa-
tory to the covenant of the league,
the Nine-Power Treaty and the
Kellogg Pact—that is to say with
the rest of the world combined.
Henceforward the Japanese
program apparently includes the
following:
First, to proceed, come what
may, with her plan to carve out a
new empire for herself on the
Asiatic mainland, and isolate her-
self therein.
Second, to arm herself on land,
on sea and in the air as heavily
as the state of her finances will
permit. .
Third, to proclaim a sort of
“Monroe Doctrine” of the Orient
by way of notice to other nations
to stay out.
Fourth, to close the “open
door” in the part of China she
controls, at least by a system of
cheap production, rebates to her
nationals, subsidized industries,
railways and shipping.
Fifth, to rule the nation thru a
sort of military dictatorship at
the head of which would be the
emperor, one word from whom
destroys practically all vestige of
opposition, whether it be for
peace or war.
On the league's side, the cove-
nant would seem to call for fur-
ther action of some sort against
Japan. And further action
would be juggling with dynamite.

The Bidding.
Mrs. Garrett was sitting in the

| While East held five hearts his
distributions is..nogt—he has no
high cards, and partner has only
made an overcall, therefore the
heart bid should not be supported
on the first round.
As Mrs. Garrett’s partner only
went to two diamonds over the
bid of one heart, altho this bid
of two diamonds was constructive,
Mrs. Garrett decided that with
her singleton ace of hearts she
would have to give up the hope of
playing the hand at no trump. Her
next bid was five diamonds, which |
bought the contract.
The Play.
West's opening lead was the
king of hearts which Mrs. Garrett
in the South won with the ace.
Her next play was the king of dia-
monds, followed by the three of
diamonds. West discarding a
small heart.
The next play was a small club

West returned the queen of
hearts, which Mrs. Garrett trump-
ed with the six of diamonds.
If East held the queen of
spades, Mrs. Garrett could finesse-
her jack of spades and easily
make her contract. However, it
the finesse failed, her game would
be lost.
The drop of the nine of clubs
by East on the first club play
gave her the tip-off to attempt to
establish a small club on which a

How to End Painful Piles Without

If you think a surgical operation is
the only way to get rid of Piles, it’s
because you haven't heard of the harm-

After years of study, Dr. J. B. Leon-

sowel walls weak; the parts almost dead.
Right away the doctor set to work to

patients, with success in over 900 cases,
ne named his prescription HEM-ROID.
The doctor wants every Pile sufferer
to benefit by his discovers, and so there
will be no doubting or delay, Renfro Drug
