Gay Bux in the seventh and Green Game in the eighth. Sumpter
took another win on Friday, three more on Saturday.'
GAY BUX made an impressive seasonal debut in Thursday’s
- seventh race. The gelding chalked up his third victory in a row,
winning the870-yard claiming event by 3% lengths. His previous
two wins were in similar competition at Sunland Park earlier in
the year.
TOUCH OF TO AB received little backing from the fans 134-1)
but he came from off the pace for a nose victory in the
six-furlong 11 th race Thursday. The allowance score was quite a
jump from a maiden victory the last time out -
WALT GARRISON, star running back for the Dallas Cowboys
and also well-known for his skills in the rodeo arena, visited the
| mountain track over the weekend. Garrison was honored during
i Sunday’s co-feature and was interviewed on the regional
I telecast of the. Rainbow Futurity.
GRADY HOPPER picked up another fine prospect in Sunday’s
[ fifth race. Hopper claimed Gypsy Treat from William
i Thompson for ,13.500. The gelding won the mile event by.2%
5 lengths. Gary Sumpter had the ride.
i WALTER HODGES had a short walk back to the Jockey Room
won a similar venture by the same margin.
RALPH SHEBESTER not only had to watch his speed king
Bugs Alive in 75 get beaten in the $315,140 Rainbow Futurity (he
finished second to Chick Called Sue), but he had to watch it (on
TV) from a hospital bed in his hometown of Wynnewood, Okla.
Ralph was the victim of a car accident about three weeks ago,
suffering 11 broken ribs. His wfe Betty says he’s on the mend
. and able to get around somewhat on his own. He should be
released from the hospital in one or two weeks and is sure to be
on hand when The Bug goes into the trials for the All-American
