Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Koennig "L.K." Croft
Lloyd Koenning “L.K.” and Lucy Nance Croft recently cel-
ebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their three children
and families, gathering for a three-day reunion at Roddy Tree
Ranch in Hunt.
Their family includes Leslie, Andy and Daniel Martinez; Lyle,
Erin, Bennett and Camille Croft; Lloyd, Stacy, Jeffrey and Bryan
Croft.
L.K. and Lucy were married July 12, 1958, at the First
Presbyterian Church in Kerrville, with Rev. Richard G. Ryan
officiating.
Parents of the groom were Lloyd and Gertrude Koenning Croft
of San Antonio and parents of the bride were Bennett and Archie
LeBus Nance of Kerrville
If you could make a difference
in your life by saving a life, would
you consider it? Pet adoption of a
homeless pet is easy, inexpensive
and your rewards are “priceless”.
Whether you are a cat person or
prefer dogs, you are the “right”
person for a homeless pet just
waiting for you to give her a safe
place to live. The communities
in our area are fortunate to have
many small rescue organizations,
assisted by the Hill Country
Animal League, that rescue and
place pets for adoption. Pets are
rescued from the various area
pounds and also rescued from
bad situations. Every rescued pet
is given the medical treatment he
needs and is spayed or neutered.
They are micro-chipped for iden-
tification and made available for
adoption.
Every puppy or kitten, dog or
cat, has a story. The job of the pet
Adoption Advocate is to match
the pet with the right family.
The pets are placed on various
websites including BoernePets.
com and Petfinder.com.
People from all over the area
are able to log into these sites to
see the pets and read their sto-
ries. Potential adopters submit an
application and are interviewed.
The adoption advocate is try-
ing to make a “match” between
the adopter and the pet. If they
feel that the pet is not appropri-
ate for a particular situation, the
adoption advocate will suggest
that the adopter consider a differ-
ent type of pet. For example,
if someone lives in an apart-
ment with limits on breeds or
weight, that would need to be

taken into consideration. If a
dog did not like cats, she would
not be placed in a home with cats,
etc. Many times, the Adoption
Advocate will suggest a “trial
adoption” so the family has time
to assess the new pet’s reac-
tion to other animals or family
members. Adoption Advocates
can give adoptive families advice
on breed characteristics, house
training, obedience training and
other pet subjects.
Adoption fees may vary but are
necessary to recover the costs of
spay/neuter, shots, micro-chip-
ping and fostering the pet. Older
pets are also tested for heart-
worms and treated, if necessary,
prior to adoption. So, for an
average adoption fee of $150.00,
the adopter is receiving a healthy
pet, up to date on all immuniza-
tions and already altered. It is
a real deal! These reduced fees
are made possible because the
cost of spay/neuters is offset by
donations to the Hill Country
Animal League, either directly or
through donations to the HCAL
Rummage Store in Boerne.
Donations are tax deductible, as
HCAL is a not for profit orga-
nization, and many low income
families in the area are able to
find good recycled clothes and
furniture at the Rummage Store.
It is a win-win situation for the
community.
Pets available for adoption can
be seen in person at the Hill
Country Animal League Spay/
Neuter Clinic , 924 North Main
Street, Boerne. Come by Mon-
day-Friday to see the cats and get
spay/neuter information. Satur-
day is the big adoption day at
HCAL when area rescues bring
their pets in to meet the public,
from 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.
