Chris Godsey files for BISD PI. 3
Thormaehlen makes bid for BISD PI. 2
Chris Godsey has filed for
election as Boerne Indepen-
dent School District Trustee in
Place 3.
“It would be an honor to be
able to represent the Boerne
community as a member of our
« school board. Fiscal responsibil-
ity and educational excellence
will be what guide my actions
if elected. Our district does not
need to spend more, we need to
spend smart.”
Godsey received her bachelor
of arts in education in 1985. She
then taught in Northside ISD
in San Antonio for two years
before moving to Boerne.
Since then she has served as
Fabra PTO president, Little
League Baseball Commissioner,
religious education teacher, and
founder of the Hog Wild Cartel
for the Kendall County Junior
Livestock Sale. Today, there are
hundreds of Boerne and Comfort
kids paying for college with tens
of thousands of dollars raised by
Hog Wild.

her candidacy for Boerne mayor
Former Boerne City Councilman
Judy Edmondson has announced
she will run for mayor on a consen-
sus-building campaign in what often
appears to be a divided community.
“Boerne is a model for how a
small town in proximity to a very
large city can grow and still main-
tain its unique identity,” she said.
Edmondson promises to work hard
to assure that Boerne can sustain its
financial health, commercial viabil-
ity and overall quality of life during
the current economic downturn.
Making the city planning process
more open to direct citizen involve-
ment will help to provide a city
government that is more responsive
to citizen input, and more inclusive
of citizen involvement, Edmondson
said.
Edmondson is a fifth-grade teacher
at Kendall Elementary School and
the director of Keep Boerne Beau-
tiful. She was born and raised in
San Antonio, graduated from Saint
Mary’s Hall and the University of
Texas with a bachelor of business
administration in marketing and
finance and a master of education
and certification in mid-manage-
ment. She has been an educator for

She said she hopes to foster com-
munity fellowship by expanding

resentatives from all neighborhoods
and to create a Citizens Mayoral
Advisory Board.

owner for the last 11 years, she
said she knows how important it
is to be a good steward of other
people’s money.
“Godsey Homes was built on
a strong desire to give clients
the most for their money. I have
the responsibility of making the
most out of what is the largest
financial investment my clients
will make. It is this commitment
to sound financial stewardship
that I will bring with me if
elected. School taxes are such
a large portion of our personal
budgets. Taxpayers want to
know their money is being spent
wisely. Addressing the possible
budget deficit and subsequent
tax increase being considered
will be a top priority. As I said
we need to spend smart, not
more,” Godsey said.
She and her husband Wayne
Godsey have three children who
have graduated from Boerne
High School. Their oldest son
lives and works in Boerne and
her daughter and youngest son
attend Texas A&M University.
Erik Thormaehlen has filed to
run for Place 2 on the Boerne
Independent School District
Board of Trustees. Thormaehlen
currently holds Place 4 and has
one year remaining on his term.
When asked why he has decided
to challenge current Place 2
Trustee Lydia Beaver, Thormae-
hlen said, “I’ve served my three
years on the board and now it’s
time for me to put myself up for
public approval just the same as
the other board members.”
Thormaehlen was elected in
May of 2006 to a one-year term
after defeating fellow trustee Ron
McBee by nearly 500 votes. The
following year, no one filed to
run against him so Thormaehlen
automatically received an addi-
tional three years.
“I don’t think anyone should
serve on this board for more than
three years without having an
opponent. Competition is good
for democracy and due to the
fact that I have been at odds with
Lydia and the other incumbents
on a number of issues, I have
decided that now is the time to
see where the voters stand.”
Thormaehlen has voted against

head down to Main Plaza next Tuesday, March 10,

Texas Celtic duo Campbell & Wilson. If weather
is inclement, the event will move inside the library.

superintendent bonuses, the con-
version of the band marching lot,
the contract renewal of the bond
construction manager and more
spending issues. He has also
advocated for the district to get
rid of the drug testing program
which costs $75,000 a year.
Thormaehlen recently gradu-
ated from The University of Texas
at San Antonio with a bachelor of
arts in history and has completed
his teacher certification. He cur-
rently substitutes in Bandera and
for years has been a mentor at
various Boerne campuses.
Thormaehlen said that if he is
elected he will push for more
fiscally conservative practices
on the BISD school board. “I
really feel that the district needs
to disband the budget commit-
tee. I feel that this is one of those
areas where the entire board
should be involved and con-
duct several budget workshops
just as the city council does. In
my opinion, the administration
has this process set up to keep
differing opinions out of the pro-
cess. It’s a go-along-get-along
type of system.”
Thormaehlen said that the BISD
is nearing a $2 million deficit in
this fiscal year, with plans for an
even larger deficit in the follow-
ing year. “The only ideas that
I have heard from the adminis-
tration on how to balance this
budget is by either a tax increase
or cutting teaching and special
education positions. This is sim-
ply not right considering that we
have higher-paying administra-
tive positions that should be the
first to go. The district is about
the kids.”
