Land Swap
County, Comfort ISD plan
to exchange sports fields
BY DAVE Pasley
Staff Writer
Kendall County and the Com-
fort Independent School District
are pursuing a mutually benefi-
cial land swap. Commissioners are
also considering selling another
county-owned property in the
Comfort area.
Monday court members took the
initial step in both the exchange
and the sale processes, authorizing
notices to be placed in local news-
papers next month.
Since about 1972 Kendall County
has leased Altgelt Field to the
CISD. County Attorney Don Allee
said the school district approached
the county about acquiring and
improving the property. Allee said
he determined the most cost-effec-
tive approach to transfer title of the
property to the school district was
for the two entities to exchange
property.
In exchange for Altgelt Field
the county would receive a soft-
ball field known as Faltin Field.
Because the district is building a
new softball field after this season,
Allee said the district will no lon-
ger need the Faltin Field property.
Since both properties are of similar
size and value, Allee said he and
the CISD attorney recommended
an exchange be considered.
The potential sale of land
involves a small strip of surplus
right-of-way along FM 27 adjacent
to the creek that separates Kend-
all and Kerr Counties. Allee said
an adjacent property owner has
expressed interest in buying the
property. With Monday’s action
bids will now be sought and com-
missioners will have the option of
accepting the highest bid or reject-
ing all bids.
Commissioners also received a
presentation from Bronson Lerma
of Texas Greenergy Corporation
regarding a proposal to operate
a for-profit brush collection and
mulching site in conjunction with
the county.
Lerma’s plan calls for Green-
ergy to operate the site with initial
start-up financial assistance from
the county and use county-owned
equipment.
The county brush collection site
near Champion High School was
shut down several months ago
because of air quality concerns
