UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN Wt. FIELDS, OF SHERMAN, TEXAS,
IMPROVEMENT IN PRESSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,317, dated February 10, 1874; application filed
November 22, 1573.To all whtom it may concern :
Be it known that I, JoIN W. FIELDS, of
Sherman, in the county of Grayson and State
of Texas, have invented a new and Improved
Press, of which the following is a specifica-
tion :
The invention will first be fully described,
and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is a horizontal section of my im-
proved press, taken on line x xof Fig. 2. Fig.
2 is a vertical section, taken on the line y y of
Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is an elevation of the wheel
of the sweep, the latter being sectioned on the
line z z.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre-
sponding parts.
A is the press-case, which is arranged hIri-
zontally. B is the follower; C, the follower-
stem; D, the gaide-pulleys on the stem; E,
the ropes or chains; F, the pulley on the
sweep ( for working said chains; II, the point
where the chains or ropes are fastened to theframe of the machine, and J the points where
the ropes or chains are fastened to the sweep-
pulley.
As the ropes or chains run in opposite direc-
tions from the points of connection to the wheel,
over the latter, and the guide-pulleys to the
point of fastening to the press-frame, it will be
seen that a forward-and-backward movement
of the sweep will move the follower up and
back.
Having thus described my invention, I claim
as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat-
ent-
The combination, with the press-case A, hav-
ing shaft II, and follower B, having stem C, of
the guide-pulleys D D, rope E, and vibratory
sweep-pulley F, having arm G, as and for the
purpose described.
