Hyannis Port
Voles Io Ask
Road Barrier
HYANNIS PORT. Mass (AP) -
Neighbors of Sen. John F Ken- .
nedy. troubled by the tourist and 1
traffic rush in their sedate sum- '
mer community, appealed Satur-
day for barricades to bring back
peace and quiet
Since Kennedy returned from
Los Angeles as Democratic pres-
idential nominee, police have es-
timated the traffic load at up to
3,000 vehicles a day in the street
beside his summer home a crowd
of tourists Friday pushed forward
and knocked down a portion of the
fence at Kennedy’s house.
The Hyannis Civic Assn , at an
overflow meeting voted unani-
mously to ask that police set up
barricades at the approaches to
Hyannis Port to keep out strang-
ers
Residents said the traffic and
tourist rush to view Kennedy fam-
ily summer homes and seek a
glimpse of the nominee is endang
ering the lives of their children
and hurting their once-peaceful re-
sort Hyannis Port is a settlement
of about 500 persons.
Garret Schenck Jr . a young at-
torney, proposed barricades as a
solution. He proposed police-man-
ned barriers at the two roads lead-
ing into Hyannis Port, with only
residents, their invited guests and
tradesmen to be allowed to pass
Schenck said the ban, which
would have to be approved by the
police, should remain in effect un-
til the situation changes
No Kennedy's attended the meet-
ing, but President George Shan-
non said the senator’s brother,
Robert, had indicated the family
would back whatever the associa- 1
lion, decided upon.

A 28-year-old Abilene man,
Jimmie Leon Linton of Rt 5, was
charged Saturday with sexual
assault on a 24-year-old house-
wife here about 1 a.m. Saturday,
Following filing of charges by
County Attorney Bill Thomas in
H F. Long’s justice court, Lin
ton was jailed in lieu of $5,000
bond.
The victim of the alleged as-
sault said her husband was away
at work and she was asleep in
a bedroom of her Sewell St
home when she awoke to dis-
cover a man in the room. She
said he assaulted her after
threatening her and her nine-
month-old child who was asleep.
She said the man’s breath
smelled of beer.
She told Det Harold Emerson
that the man left the house by the
front door and drove away in a
blue and white Chevrolet automo-
bile. Det. M. M Dillard said the
man had entered the house through
a window unit air conditioner
Lawmen, acting on a tip, ar-
rested the suspect at his home
Aiding in the investigation was
Deputy Sheriff Garland Ellison.
