Dear Ann Landers This isn’t teacher before. I'm sure she has quest 20 cents in coin and a long
it in for the boy. Simply because
a child makes noise with the chalk
trouble but it's s confounded
nuisance Can you tell me what
— if anything — can be done
about it?
I’ve been invited to many homes
where the people are proud own-
ers of stereo. The moment the
front door is opened you are
greeted with a blast that just
about takes your head off.
is not sufficient reason to send
him home from school in my
opinion. What's yours? - S. W.
Dear S. W.: There’s more to
this story than David is telling.
I suggest you go to school and
get the other side.
Throughout the entire evening
guests scream at one another
trying to make themselves heard
over the din On a few occasions
I’ve ventured to say, “Isn't the
music a shade too loud?"
Invariably the reply is "No —
it's supposed to be like this. It's
stereo, you know — double speak-
ers." I've had an urge to say
"Only Two? It sounds like a doz-

Tell me. Ann, when one's head
begins to throb what can a person
say without being rude? Please
suggest a tactful phrase. — DAM-
AGED EARS
Dear Damaged: It makes no
sense whatever to spend an eve-
ning trying to out - shout ear-
splitting music.
Simply holler, “Would you mind
turning the stereo off? Your con-
versation is too good to miss and
I can't hear you "
Dear Ann Landers Our 10-year-
old son isn’t perfect but he’s truth-
ful. Yesterday David came home
from school in the middle of the
morning. 1 asked him what was
wrong He said, “The teacher is
a crabby old maid and she sent
me home because 1 made noise
on the blackboard with the chalk."
David has had trouble with this

Dear Ann Landers: Whenever
you get a problem too tough to
handle you say “See your clergy-
man.”
I quit going to church eight
years ago and I don't know any
clergymen because I don't trav-
el in the right circles. The clergy-
men in this town are too busy get-
ting their pictures in the paper to
bother about helping people. Why
should they visit the sick or lis-
ten to people's trouble when they
can collect a fat fee for making
a speech to a ladies club or bury-
ing somebody rich?
The dedicated servant of God
is s thing of the past, Ann, so stop
telling people to see their clergy-
man. Clergymen don't want to
be bothered. - WISED UP
Dear Up: Since you haven’t
been, inside a church for eight,
years — and don't know any cler-
gymen — it’s interesting that
you consider yourself an authori-
ty on the subject.
Those who choose religion for a
career can't be drawn to the field
for money because there's preci-
ous little in it.
I've advised thousands of read-
ers to see their clergyman and
no one has ever written to say
the clergyman was too busy.
Many readers have thanked me,
however, for sending them to a
source of genuine help.
