1. (a) Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait hold 44 percent and all of OPEC,

hot water about 20 percent and lights and appliances take up the rest. 3.

4. (a) That’s according to the experts at the Mineral Insulation Manufac-
turers Association (MIMA), the national trade association of companies
that manufacture fiber glass and rock-wool insulation. That organization
recently funded a study of energy-conservation measures recommended by
the 1989 Model Energy Code issued by the Council of American Building
Officials. The study showed that insulating a home to newly recommended
insulation levels can save homeowners money and help reduce a home’s
total heating and cooling energy use by 25% or more, in most parts of the
country. The study also found it a good idea to upgrade the insulation
under floors located above unheated areas such as basements, crawl
spaces and open porches and to install energy-efficient windows. For a list
of Department of Energy recommended insulation levels for your area
write to MIMA, 1420 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.
