Chief Cavazos said the inci-
dent happened at 3:25 a.m., Sat-
urday, when Ramos and three
witnesses were talking outside the
Ice Plant in the parking lot.
The Ice Plant is located in the
200 block of West Comal Street.
"When we (Pearsall police)
arrived at the hospital, witnesses
said Villarreal had shot Ramos,"
Cavazos said. "We found Villar
real in town and apprehended him.
We also found the weapon in his
pickup truck."
Cavazos added that the shoot-

Pearsall man remains in stable
condition at a San Antonio hos-
pital as ol l uesday, June 4, after
suffering gunshot wounds to the
chest following an altercation with
a wheel chaired assailant in
the parking lot of Lalo’s Ice
Plant early Saturday, June 1.
Jose Angel Ramos was shot
once in the left chest, below the
heart cavity, and once in the stom-
ach, Pearsall police officials said.
Ramos was transported to Frio
Hospital in a private vehicle by
witnesses at the scene. He was
later transferred bya Frio County
IMS unit to Medical Center Hos-
pital in San Antonio.

On Thursday, May 30,
Cotulla resident Mike Whit-
well was approached by three
young boys who attempted to
sell him expensive handtools.
Whitwell became suspi
cious and later called Sherill
Avant, reports said
The three boys, ages 12-
14, were seen buying gas at a
local service station and were
reported to have stolen a 1986
Ford pickup in Grosbeck, Tx.
The boys were enroute to
Laredo when they were con-
fronted. The trio were turned
over to juvenile authorities in
Sam Ortiz, 47, of Eagle
Pss, sustained a left frac-
tured elbow a d was treated
and released from Baptist
Memorial.

SAN ANTONIO - A
Cotulla man pleaded guilty in
federal court to drug charges
on Tuesday, May 29, in con-
nection with a highly-publi-
cized 1990 Bexar County co-
caine-smuggling case.
Rolando Eulalio Guerra,
37, pleaded guilty to two counts
of transporting and aiding
and abetting the transporting
of marijuana, federal court
records showed.
La Salle County Sheriffs
officials said Guerra had a
long history of narcotic deal-
ings in the area.
Guerra was identified as
one of the truck drivers who
was involved in the massive
"Jet Set" marijuana-and co-
caine-smuggling case in early
1990.

COTULLA - A week
long crime spree ranging from
vandalism to burglary to
breaking and entering kept

occupied from Saturday, May
25 to Friday, May 31
The spree began late Sat-
urday. May 25 when the central
office of the South Texas Vo-
Tech Institute was ransacked.
However, according to La
Salle (ounty Darwin Avant,
nothing was reported to have
been taken from the office.
Sherill Avant said the
school had been moved from
Laredo to Cotulla and several
people had voiced concerns
over its relocation.
Late Sunday, May 26,
four vehicles were vandalized
in different parts of Cotulla.
On Boutwell Street, three
pickup tires were slashed. In
the 1100 block of Frio Street,
two tires on a pickup were
also slashed.
Between III 35 and FM
468, four tires were slashed
and the front and back wind-
• ic more defendent was
scheduled to plead guilty to
charges stemming from the
case late last week.
Two more will go to trial
later this summer with a group
of six others accused in the
case.

DILLEY One man
remains in guarded condition
at a San Antonio hospital as of
Tuesday, June 4, while an
other man only suffered a
fractured elbow as a result of
an oil rig mishap on Hwy 85
13 miles east of Dilley on
Thursday, May 31).
Adan Adame, 21, of
Pearsall, suffered severe spi-
nal and kidney injuries and
was transported by an Air
Life helicopter to Baptist Me-
morial Hospital in San Anto
nio.
Adame was listed in
guarded condition at Baptist
Memorial as of Tuesday,
June 4, Dilley Police Chief
Carl Burris said.
