The Election on August 10th
looks like another "ho-hum!"
projects. But you sleepy VOT-
ERS this one can reach very far
down in your pocket and that
evasive nickel or "Abe Lincoln"
will have very little opportunity
to hide. A mistake has been made:
you have been told before to take
two sharp pencils with you; I have
been informed that you cannot
use the ordinary pencil on these
ballots. You must use the pencil
furnished by the election judge.
You can still do a lot of scratching
with that pencil.
The best answer to these elec-
tions now as before: read, talk,
listen, then act as your judgement
dictates. Be sure to VOTE.

DILLEY - On Sunday at 2 pm
in the Post Home at 109 N.
Commerce St. the Building
Committee will meet of the re-
view of last year's work and take
suggestions, ideas, and projects
for the new year of 1992. This
Post and Auxiliary Unit has made
great accompxolishments in the past
and there is not reason for a cur-
tailment of that momentum.
Several projects are in the near
future for the Post and Unit. These
we do not want to attack half-
hearted. Several that are in the
future are the "ham sale” in the
Christmas and Thanksgiving pe-
riod respectively. However, the
thought of having the Twenty-third
District Convention here in early
October is still in the think tank.
These and some additional ideas
will be on the program for the
August Meeting.
Several long term members have
taken the Paid Up For Life pro-
gram. If you are interested talk to
the Adjutant as the advanced
payments arc graduated to the
number of years you have. And it
is a nice addition to your cap to
place that "PUFL" among the other
buttons, and souvenirs of by-gon
days. Think about it!
A number of the members of
this Post has extended their
membership well into the forty
years. One has reached the forty-
ninth year. Also, he was one of
the first deligates to the Boy State:
called Lone Start State at that
time. History is a wonderful sub-
ject — it shows us some wonder-
ful times of the past also the disas-
ters we have encountered. It shows
us our mistakes so we can learn
and not do the same dumb thing
over.
Although the country side has
received a very small amount of
moisture—to classify it as rain
would be streaching the point—
this leaves us in a very serious fire
situation. Even though you think
the thatch on the ground is very
thin or the stubble is very short
that can create a creeping fire and

DILLEY -- During the month
of July (he Dilley Vol. Fire Depl.
responded to 14 calls, which con-
sisted of 2 structure fires, 2 ve-
hicle mishaps, 2 assists of the Airlife
helicopter, 1 electrical fire, and 7
grass fires.
The first alarm was on July 2 at
4:47 pm. Units were dispatched
to D & B Rental in reference to a
trailor house fire. Upon arrival,
firefighters discovered that a stove
had caught on fire and had been
extinguished by employees of D
& B Rental. Firemen ventilated
the trailor for smoke. Very little
damage was done.
On July 4 at 10:22 firefighters
were called out to assist police
officers in traffic control. A Un-
ion Pacific train was blocking some
railroad crossing after colliding
with a vehicle. No one in the vehicle
was injured.
The third call of the month was
on July 10 at 11:32 am in refer-
ence to assisting the EMS with
the Airlife helicopter following a
motor cycle accident. Airlife was
dispatched and met EMS at Derby
and the patient transferred to
Wilford Hall in San Antonio.
At 7:48am on July 11 firefight-
ers were dispatched to the Dolph
Briscoe Prison west of Dilley.
Upon Arrival firefighters found
that an electrical motor had be-
come overloaded and had begun
to burn. Fire was extinguished
and no injuries occurred.
On July Hat 4:30 pm firefight-
ers had their first grass fire of the
month. The location was 7 miles
west on Hwy 117 down Massey
Rd. on the Massey Estate. Upon
arrival firefighters had a grass fire
that covered approximately 15
acres. Fire was extinguished and
fire lanes were cut around the
burned area. The dept, greately
appreciates the time and equip-
ment that Mr. Schulte and Mr.
Coleman provided on helping
contain the fire.
The sixth call for the month of
July was on the 16at 1:20pm. We
had a number of small grass fires
along the railroad from north of
town ot the Frio LaSalle county
line. All fires were extinguished
and no damage was done.
The seventh call was in refer-
ence to a structure fire. Firefigh-
ers were called to 317 Obregon
Street, this fire took placeon July
21 at 4:40 am. Upon arrival fire-
fighters found a house in full bloom.
Firemen attacked the structure
quick and hard and had it under
control within minutes. No adja-
cent homes were damaged. Esti-
mated fire loss to the structure
was 515,000.
Also on July 21 the dept, was
dispatched to 81 north at Lover's
gress. When that August body
goes home or to that junkit that
you and I will have to pay for
"Vacation”. Where are you going
on vacation this year? The same
place you went last year--to the
back field to continue work? You
will not have a pay raise to finance
it at the public fund "trough".

ailments before visitors; they prefer
to talk aboui theirs.
