Poem shares message
B.B. Owen PTA monthly meeting set
Someone once left this poem
on my desk. I have no idea who
the author is because it is un-
signed. The author was apparent-
ly going through a stressful time
and having some struggles.
Maybe it will minister to you as
you deal with a new year in 1996:
I asked God to take away my
pride
and God said, “No.”
He said it was not for him to
take away,
but for me to give up.
I asked God to make my hand-
icapped child whole,
and God said, “No.”
He said, “Her spirit is whole,
her body is just temporary.”
I asked God to grant me pati-
ence,
and God said, “No.”
He said that patience is a by-
product of tribulation.
It isn’t granted, it’s earned.
I asked God to give me happi-
ness
and God said, “No.”
He said he gives blessings,
happiness is up to me.
I asked God to spare my pain
and God said, “No.”
MICHAEL G.
WEAVER
By the Way
He said, “suffering draws you
apart from worldly cares
and brings you closer to Me.
I asked God to make my spirit
grow,
and God said “No.”
He said I must grow on my
own,
but he will prune me to make
me fruitful.
I asked God if He loved me,
and God said, “Yes.”
He gave His only Son, who
died for me
and I will be in heaven someday
because I believe.
I asked God to help me love
others as much as he loves me
and God said,
Ah, finally you have the idea.”

All Region V concert spotlights students’ musical talents
Last weekend’s All Region V con-
cert was as always a proud moment
for parents of the nearly 300 stu-
dents who participated as the most
accomplished musicians in their ,
schools in Tarrant and Denton coun-
ties.
The students had the opportunity
to work with three special clinicians
for a day and a half who praised their
musicianship, discipline and
maturity.
James Hudson of Southwest
Texas State University, Bobby
Francis of East Texas State Uni-
versity and Gregg Hanson of the
University of Arizona all reiterated
how important music is in all our
lives, especially when we are in-
volved in some of the strongest
music programs in the state.
As a band parent, it always gives
you a warm feeling to know that all
the hard work your student does is
