Winners of the Cultural Arts Competition from Griffin Middle School pose for a picture.
Area students win awards for artwork
The LISD PTA recently named the win-
ners of its school districtwide Cultural Arts
Competition, and among those receiving
recognition were three B.B. Owen
Elementary School students.
Receiving special outstanding merit were
Nathan Pierce for his photo collage; Jared
Brown in metal etching; and Katie Brown,
who received distinction with her short
story and metal etching entries.
Katie also won grand prize in the musical
composition category. Her musical entry will
represent the LISD in the District 11
Cultural Arts Competition, which will be in
March. District 11 consists of Fort Worth
and its surrounding cities, including
Lewisville.
The Cultural Arts Winners for 1996 at

Man to stand trial for robbing
The Colony grocery store
A Denton County man goes on
trial next week accused of rob-
bing the Food Lion grocery store
at 6800 Main St. in The Colony.
Keith Allen Schreiber, 22, is
charged with aggravated robbery
for the Oct. 25, 1993, holdup of
the grocery store.

GNB Announces Promotion
Garland Thornton, Executive Vice President of Guaranty National Bank, announced that
Steven Sims has been promoted to the position of Assistant Vice President. In January
Steven will be relocating to GNB’s office in The Colony to work with Mr. Thornton. He will
focus primarily on lending functions, but his responsibilities will also include customer
service and operations duties.
Mr. Sims has been with GNB since 1990, most recently as Credit Analyst. He is a 1993
graduate of the University of North Texas in Denton, where he earned his BBA in Finance.
While attending college, Steven worked part-time at GNB as a teller and as an item
processing clerk. He and his wife Kristie currently live in Sanger, but are planning to move
to The Colony. Kristie is a student at Texas Womens University in Denton where she is
studying medical technology and interning at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
Steven has been a member of the Kiwanis club, has served as a loan executive to the
Denton County United Way, and recently served as president of the Sanger Noon Lions
Club.
