4 Didn’t realize until this a.m.
how badly a rain is needed here
. . . Went out to take pix in a pas-
ture of some horseback riding
hobbyists for a feature to be
carried soon and actually the
cracks in the ground were wide
enough in many places for a
horse’s hoof to get into and it’s
a wonder that all horses either
on the Jaycee Park or in pastur-
es don’t break their ankles . . .
The Jaycee Park is a wonderful
place to ride but for barrell race
and other practicing, a sand
arena is needed; however, when
there is sufficient rain to keep
the wide cracks in the ground
closed up personal corrals are
real good for practice, but not
as good as sand, of course. And
there are some dirt roads around
here that are fine for pleasure
riding. The shoulders of the pav-
ed roads and highways would be
fine if it were not for the many,
many beer cans and bottles,
which make it impossible to ride *
along them, said our interview-
ees this morning, who explained
how carefully and slowly they
ride in the pasture because of
the many and large cracks on
the ground, which literally sepa-
rated the grass.
