Winner-Take-All Race
To Settle Arguments
BALTIMORE, Oct. 31 — (AP)—Money, as thr old
saw haa it, makes the mare go, but doilara will play
second fiddle to personal grudges, sectional feuds and
breeding arguments tomorrow when three fine horses
match speed and stamina in the Pimlico special—a "dream
race" that became a classic reality.
There will be more at flake in this race than the
$10,000 purse and the Maryland Jockey club gold cup.
Real glory and nationwide acclaim await the thoroughbre
that wins and the first to cross the finish line stands a
good chance of being named the "horse of the year."
Here is the line-up for the winner-take-all, weight-
for-age event to be run over a mile and three-sixteenths:
Horse Owner Trainer Wt. Jockey
Challendon W. L. Brann Lou Schaeffer 120 Ed Arcaro
Cravat T. B. Martin W. Burrows 126 B. James
Kayak 11 C. S. Howard Tom Smith 126 Geo. Woolf
In their only meeting to date, Challendon whipped
Kayak II in the Narragansett special. And, before that.
Kayak II beat Cravat in tiie Hollywood Gold Cup. Thus,
when these three meet in the Special, there' a triple
grudge to be settled.
