TO THE LADIES OE THE
PANHANDLE:
QUIT TAKING
RISKY CALOMEI,
Here is a vegetable tonle that is
far better for you to taker than the
dangerous drug and poison called
calomel. You never can tell when
calomel is going “to get you.”
That’s the worst thing about tak-
ing so uncertain and dangerous a
drug for constipation and liver trou-
ble. Calomel la liable to salivate
you or “knock you out" for at least1
a day the vary next time you try It.
The Amarillo Drug Store has the
. mild vegetable remedy that suc-
successfully takes the place of calo-
mel. This remedy is Dodson’s Liver

AMALLOS JUVENILE
BAND WILL MEET NOON
/ -------
In addition to the old band, which
in now under the direction of Hor-
ace Riggs, Amarille is to have a ju-
venile band of figeen pieces. Most
nt the members will be from twelve
to sixteen years of age. They are
already receiving their instruments
and will probably have their first
practice one evening this week in
the band room at the courthouse.

grandstand, overflowed the field,
and took refuge in a string of autos
a block Jong, the City League pick-
ed team took the Canyon Cliftdwell-
ers into camp by the clone score of
2 to 1..
With out question this was the
most hotly contested game of the
season and although Canyon took
about $100,00 home as the loser’s
end it was plainly evident that they
would gladly have forfeited gate re-
eelpts and have been happy bad they
won the game.
This spirit was also shown by the
Amarillo boys which accounts for the
close score. %
Crotty pitched for the Leaguers go
Ing the entire route. He pitched
superb ball, striking out seven men,
walked but two, and donated but
seven hits which he kept well seat-
tered.----
Ashley did the other half of the
battery work, holding the runners
close to the bases by his whips in
that direction and making it appar-
ent to the wise fans that he WAS
using his think dome when the hea-
vy Canyon hitters stepped to the
plate. .-
Ben Monning starred on the In-
field work at second base, getting
three putouts and seven assists at
that station without making a bob-

bagger and a single in three times

against Newton Kansas. The fault
lay with the choach who should have
located the ball before the runner
went on the line.
Word was replaced by Hull Prich-

and although he struck out but three:

three safe hits were garnered off his

Monning tagged a runner on the line
and threw the batter out at first.
Canyon scored their only run in
the fourth Inning when with two
men down. Starr singled, stole,see-
ond end scored when Hicks, follow-
ing, got a one base safty . Campbell
next man up, whiffed, retiring the
side.
Canyon had a chance, and would
have tied the score in the seventh in-
ning, had not Campbell tried to
steal home after getting on third by
a three base hit- far over center field.
W. Black, the man at bat when
this squeeze play was attempted put
a safe hit over the infield. i
Four years ago the New York
Giants lost the World's Series by
sending in a pinch hitter without
giving notice to the game officials
and opposing team of their change
of line-up.
Yesterday aternoon with two bat-
ters down in the ninth inning Can-
yon put in a left-handed pinch hit-
ter named Jones with out making an
announcement of the fact. Having
batted he was declared out. During
the operation of batting, Jones put a
hot grounder through, the infield
which would have tied the score and
given Canyon a possible chance to
win. Had this out been declared
during an earlier stage of the game
it would have been immaterial but
coming in the last inning with two
men’ down and considering the fact
that a previous announcement would
have tied the score. it makes Can
yon’s loss a regrettable feature. The
Canyon Cliffd wellers, playing error-
less ball, showed the same class
found in the fastest teams which,
“visited Amarillo this summer and
although they lost their game, ano-
then will be necessary before the
Amarillo fans will be convinced that
the Leaguers can boastingy flaunt
the said Canyon scalp.
