stood-up. The audience turned its

"I suggest," said Dr. Dorn quietly,
- “that wo try to avoid hysteria in
this crisis. That it to a crisis none
of us can question. But that Pen.

he looked at Dean Brown.
‘‘I hear you have somethin* to say
about me. Suppose you say it to

A. little shiver ran over the crowd.
Dean Brown put his hands in his

in again. The veins on his temples
were swelling. „
At last he cleared his throat, and
the sound rasped upon the still air.

Eric laughed and squared his
anoulders. ‘‘So I thought. You only
want to talk about me, without
giving me a chance to defend my
self. Well, fair enough. Now, I’ve
got something to say to you."
The light of battle was gleaming
la his eyes and Judith watched him
in fearful admiration.
“You’ve made veiled remarks
about me and the rum-running -
