Stephen Kaufman, Chairman
of the Houston Chapter of The
American Jewish Committee,
announced today, that the
Houston Chapter would again be
sending a local Jewish professor
to National AJC’s Second

Jewish American academicians.
The committee selected Dr.

Seminar is to provide young
Jewish academicians a positive
experience in Israel which they,
in turn, can relate to Jewish
students on their respective
campuses.
The young professors left
New York December 22 for
Israel and will return on January
6. During their stay in Israel
they will be meeting with their
peers in most of Israel’s
universities. They will also meet
with students, Israeli leaders and
leading faculty people. In
addition, they will be given a
tour of Israel and will be
exposed to all of the significant
social, cultural and political
aspects of that country. Dr.
Katser stated that on his return
to Houston from Israel he would
be delighted to meet with adult
and student groups to relate his
experiences.
Last year the Houston
Chapter AJC sent two professors
to the Seminar in Israel. These
were Dr. Richard Feld, Assistant
Professor of Political Science at
the University of Houston, and
Dr. Irving Rothman, Associate
Professor of Graduate Studies in
English, also at the University of
Houston. Dr. Feld and Dr.
Rothman have already made a
number of appearances before
community groups and indicated
that they would be most happy
to share their Israeli experiences
with other interested
organizations.

REPORTS MOST CASES NOW
INVOLVE FAMILY PROBLEM:
NEW YORK (JTA) A
majority of cases now coming to
the Jewish Conciliation Board of
America, a non-judicial body
whose decisions are binding on
Jews bringing their problems to
it, now involve martial and other
family problems, “particularly
those involving difficulties
between parents and children”,
the agency said in its annual
report. Mrs. Louis Richman,
executive secretary, said that 5 3
cases were adjudicated in 16
sessions between October, 1970
and October, 1971, the agency
year. She said this was about 10
more than the number handled
in the prior year. Panelists of the
board include rabbis, judges,
businessmen and lawyers. A
trend toward liquidation of
Jewish fraternal organizations
and societies also were reported,
in which the board is asked for
help in dissolving the
organizations. In the past, Mrs.
Richman reported, many of the
cases brought to the board
involved relationships of Jews to
organizations. The board still has
some cases of that type, she
added, but most cases
involve family problems.
