Tuesday night next at the Casino hall
twenty young ladies of ibis city will "put
up’’ a Dairy Maids’Drlll for the benefit of
St. Mark's church. There are five "fours”
of them; each "four” to be costumed
differently. The team is composed of the
following young ladies to be drilled by

Police Judge Devine is sporting a hand-
some new suit making ready for the city
election.
The $2OO appropriated six weeks ago for
bars in the prisoner's corner in thecitv
court room is now being spent. The job
will soon be completed.
Citv Clerk Claudon continue* to occupy
his easy chair and puff the Mexican cig-
arettes.
Judge Bryan visited the mayor’s office
yesterday and had a gang around him
when he went to leave.
The “big bugs” are paid by vouchers
monthly while the street commissioner’s
force and other laboring people in the em-
ploy of the city are compelled to trot up
to the stand.
It is hard for a reporter to get a good
report of police court when half the cases
are tried in the Mexican language and
not Interpreted.
Captain Hennessey and Officer Schu-
macher ac’od as chemical engines yester-
day and extinguished a small chimney
blaze on CommerceSttreet.
C. Schacklett and S. D. Scudder were
tried before Judge Devine yesterday af-
ternoon (or fighting. Schacklett was
fined $5 and the case against Scudder was
dismissed.
Officer Magner is in Houston on busi-
ness for himself.
Registrar August Santleben sprung
himself for two-bits yesterday afternoon
and “setem up” to Herman Heiligmann.
Mounted Policeman Peterson took his
horse to the blacksmith shop this morn-
ing and paid $1 for new shoes.
