When Mollie Bathes the Baby.
When Mollie bathes the baby
I lay my book aside
And watch the operation
With deep paternal pride;
I scan the dimpled body
Of the struggling little elf
For undeveloped points of
Resemblance to myself.
*
When Mollie bathes the baby
She always says to me:
“Isn’t he just as cunning
And sweet as he can be ?
Just see those pretty dimples !
Aren’t his eyes a lovely blue ?”
And then “You precious darling
I could bite those arms in two.”
When Mollie bathes the baby
I always say to her:
“Look out now don’t you drop
him”
And she answers back “No sir!”
Then I talk about his rosy cheeks
The muscles in his arms
His shapely head his sturdy legs
And other manly charms.
When Mollie bathes the baby
The household bends its knee
And shows him greater deference
Than it ever shows to me.
But I feel no jealous goading
As they laud him to the skies
For everyone assures me
That he has his father’s eyes.

To Make Currant Jelly.
When making currant jelly se-
lect freshly - gathered currants
which are not over-ripe; mash and
squeeze them through a jelly bag.
Put the juice intoa porcelain-lined
kettle and stand over a brisk fire;
let boil for twenty minutes; add a
pound of sugar for every pint of
juice and stir until it dissolves.
Skim; bring to a boil; take from
the fire; put in glasses and stand
aside to jelly. A little of the liquid
can be tried in a glass before taking
up and if it does not jelly it may
be boiled a few minutes
longer. A clear light-colored
jelly can be made by using white
and red currants. To make Eng-
lish currant jelly take ripe cur-
rants; do not pick from the stems;
weigh and allow half a pound of
sugar to every pound of currants.
Put the fruit into a preserve ket-
tle; mash and stir over the fire for
twenty-five minutes. Take up;
strain through a flannel bag. Wash
the kettle put the juice in it let
come to a boil and add the sugar;
stir until dissolved take from the
fire; pour in glasses; let cool and
cover.—June Ladies’ Home Jour-
nal.

Council of Etiquette.
In a certain female college the
students have formed a council of
etiquette to which all disputed
points of outward and visible con-
duct may be referred. Representa-
tives from each class in the college
compose the council and they look
up the evidence of the best author-
ities on manners and deportment.
Fortnightly/ papers 011 various
heads of the subject are read and
discussed and the inward grace
that dictates fine manners is con-
sidered.

“This remarkable temperature was reg-
istered in the kitchen of a suburban resi-
dent. Upon close examination the cause
was discovered being an old time cast

temperature removed by placing one of

New Styles in Mourning.
A widow’s bonnet deserves atten-
tion for the veil which is of soft
crepe having a half-yard hem at
each end and one two inches wide
along the sides writes Emma M.
Hooper in the June Ladies’ Home
Journal. This is thrown across the
bonnet with the deep hems ou the
sides—one side fifteen inches long-
er than the other—and pinned in a
line with the rolls two of which a
finger thick go around the dia-
mond-shaped bonnet. In front is
the widow’s ruche; ties of white
crepe lisse four inches wide and
twenty-seven long with an inch
hem on the sides two-inch hem at
the end and three tucks above.
Crepe is now used for wings
and all of the different bows
that are made of velvet or ribbon
on other hats. Black flowers are
worn with crepe and dull-finished
gros-grain ribbon. In Paris a tiny
plaiting of white tulle is worn in
all crepe bonnets. Black silk
crowns lace brims gros-grain
ribbon and black flowers are
made up for mourning wear
and crepe is not always included.
Brussels lace veils short with
round or square edges are worii
even when no other crepe appears
these being edged with one or
more folds of fine light crepe. For
evening use in complimentary
mourning not including crepe
there are bandeaux of gros-grain
ribbon black violets and jet rings
or purple violetsand jet and moire
ribbon.
