Traveling Dresses.
From the Philadelphia Ledger.
For traveling dresses alpaca Is
much In vogue the brilliant sur-
face not retaining the dust. These-
costu mes are made simple. A plain
skirt with deep hem and several
rows of stitching little open jacket
just coming to the waist of the
same under it a white pique
waistcoat with a double row of
buttons collar and revers of pique
are made movable so that they
can be worn or not according to
fancy. These alpaca costumes are
made in various shades black
white beige carmelite and all use-
ful tints and are also used for
bicycle costumes for the hot
weather often without a skirt only
the wide full trousers plaited at
the waist and drawn in at the
ankle and a light blouse. Ono of
these has a short skirt in woolen
plaid plaited like a kilt and plaid
stockings to match with laced
Russia leather boots and sailor hat.
A black poplin skirt is made
with a velvet coat having a low-
ered waistcoat. Gray continues to
be much worn ; a gray crepon has
a corselet belt of satin outlined
with jet; the sleeves are made of
crepon for the upper part and gray
satin for the lower. New capes are
made in glace silk suitable either
for morning or evening wear and
singularly smart. A green shot
with yellow and lined with pink
forms a double cape the upper one
cut in vandykes and both edged
with black plaited net of a some-
what coarse texture. This also en-
circles the throat and ribbons
are tied in front.
Singularly pretty is a dark blue
flannel costume made for Newport
as a coat and skirt with sailor
color the white crossing over a
moire waistcoat. French tulle bows
for the neck give a good finish to a
dressy toilet. They are made of
white plaited loops without ends
and are broad and quite effective.
White serges are made with their
skirts in a new way with box plaits
and double-breasted coats to ac-
company them.
A shooting costume destined for
the Adirondacks is in brown
check tweed. A novel skirt bound
with brown leather is arranged to
turn up to any height required by
means of buttons on the under edge
of the skirt and leather straps
from the waist fixed to the skirt
with button holes at graduated
distance. The Norfolk bodice is
bound with leather and leather
collar and revers. The knicker-
bockers to match are of tume
which is expensive but like a
riding habit will not easily wear
out and its life will be longer than
that of an ordinary gown. Gai-
ters and leggings appertain to the
shooting costume. At Newport
the other day a society man ap-
peard on a bicycle and in a costun e
which proved to be nothing more
than the ordinary shooting cos-
tume worn by French ladies at
their country houses. The costume
consists of knickerbockers and a
very short skirt of gray cloth hose
to match tan shoes a tight-fitting
jacket and a gray Alpine hat.

A WOOL BUYER'S REPORT.
Tell the Effect of Democratic Finan-
ciering on Texas Sheep.
The following letter was written by a
San Antonio wool buyer to a factor in the
east:
Dear Sir: Agreeable to your Inquiry
“as to condition of our sheep and wool
industry the same should have been
answered sooner but have been busy
since my return south.
It looks like we are to have a year of
leisure or emigrate to some foreign coun-
try. When Democracy took charge of
the government in 1884 Texas had 8.500-
000 sheep an average production of say
66)4 pounds or 50000000 pounds. The de-
crease since is perhaps larger than any
one would anticipate. Our production in
1894 will not reach 15000.000 pounds.
Fortunately for the wdolbuyer from a
selfish standpoint the former is unable to
dispose of h»s flocks for the butchers'
block. Many railroads will not accept
shipments for Chicago unless freight is
prepaid fearing that a carload of sheep
would not bring sufficient to
cover freight charges hence I
think our production for 1895 is likely
to be about 12.000.000 pounds. It think
the next two or three.years will wipe out
the sheep industry in Texas largely for
the want of care. The farmer disgusted
and too poor to buy dip to prevent Scab
which is as injurious to sheep husbandry
as Democracy hence you will have to
turn your attention to foreign wools and
would thank you to consider my applica-
tion to serve you in some of the South
American countries. Think 1 shall have
ample time to study the Spanish.’’

Married
A young couple walking down Com-

window of H. Schultze Jr. she says;
“George if you buy that nice Gasohud

bought them next morning—two more
hearts made happy.
