In the
malaria
districts
there has been in use a remedy with
good effects for nearly a quarter of
a century. It is a preventive and
cure that thousands make use of
every year. Why ? Because it never
fails to do good—its medicinal quali-
ties are certain. It is specific fot
this dread disease. It cures!

Kindergarten.
The object of education should be har-
monious development. Our age is indus-
trial not military our education is Dem-
ocratic not exclusive hence it must con-
cern itself with the great facts of the
world In which we live. Our mental
slates are dependent as much upon the
motor centers as upon the semory eeni-
ers. hence the hand should be taught to
do as well as the eye to see Here comes
the value of the kindergarten the spread
of which must delight all who believe
with Pestalozzi that “every human
being i« entitled to the development of
the faculties he was born with.” In the
kindergarten all the child's activities are
brought Into play and here at a time
when the joints are supple ihe child's
fingers are trained.
As the Impressions of the first seven years
are among the most enduring how im-
portant it is that the years between four
and eight should be properly developed.
Here in the kindergarten "In playful
work or workful play” the child finds a
relief for and a satisfaction of his active
impulses and receives an elementary
ground-work for all la’er work whether
artistic or professional.
The nursery is recognized as the legiti-
mate beginning as manuel training is the
logical offspring of kindergarten work.
The race of modern life Is very keen
and the fittest alone survive. Every stage
of life has ’its own needs which
can be satisfied at no other lime.
The Influence of the kindergarten is
shown in every form of Industrial work.
Throughout all lessons in form color
cutting sewing weaving plays and
games there is also constant practice in
language. Truly It is on the whole child
that the kindergarten exerts its influ-
ence and It is the harmonious develop-
ment of all his powers that Is its highest
ideal Kindergarten has proved itself a
safe bridge over the gup between the
nursery and the school. Let us look for
the day in the near future whan there
will be connected with every school in
cities and towns a first class kindergarten
department. The primary school will
draw its members no longer from the
streets but from the well ordered kinder-
garten.
Theschool of the future will make us
more truly groat by its decided aim to-
ward tne upbuilding of character. It will
becom" the mightiest force of our land
a- standing on the firm foundation of the
kindergarten it raises our children by
easy progressive steps to the ideal man-
hood. A. J. Fitv.
