Old people who require medicine to
regulate the bowels ana kidneys will find
the true remedy in Electric Bitters. This

of the functions. Electric Bitters Is an
excellent appetizer and aids digestion.

sented in the form of a symposium
and will be contributed to by men

reason of learning and extensive

A Newspatea Condenser.
One of the most valuable pieces
of newspaper furniture is the "con-
denser” which has its very prac-
tical uses; the editor needs it when
inclined to write column articles
which possess the geomatric distin-
ction of "length without breadth”
being admirably calculated to put
the devout reader to sleep while
the mercury reposes at 95 degrees
in the shade; correspondents some-
times find it a valuable article when
forgetting the impossibility of
crowding two columns of man-
uscript into one column of type
they wander so far from the stern
facts as to experience a sense of
forlorn loneliness; in these busy
hurrying times a well arranged con-
densor which will do as crushingly
good work as the press in a cider
mill is an indispensable portion of
a newspaper man’s outfit.—Clinton
(Mass.)ltem.
The Newspaper Fiend.
Worse than a mad dog or a
case of small pox is the newspaper
fiend. The man who never buys a
newspaper but is continually bor-
rowing one.
He generally has money is well-
dressed and respectable but if he
has five cents he will invest it in
beer and then borrow your news-
paper.
If you have an office and your
daily paper is left there every morn-
ing the newspaper fiend is there as
soon as the office opens takes the
paper and the easiest chair and reads
even down to the smallest advertise-
ment. Then without even thanking
you gets up and goes away.
If you keep a bar-room it is the
same way. He will saunter in try
to stand you off for a drink and
failing in this borrow your paper
"just lor a minute” but really
keeps it two hours.
You can’t shame him; he doesn’t
know what the feeling is. You
may ' 'jolly’ ’ him for being too mean
to buy a paper but he doesn’t care
a cent; his hide is thicker than that
of an alligator and he continues to
borrow and read your paper to the |
disgust of yourself and your cus-
tomers.
Thank heaven! He cannot live
forever and one of these days the
devil will put him on a toasting
fork and the rest of us will look
over the battlements of heaven and
laugh to. see him sizzling.—Jack-
sonville (Fla.) Times-Union.
The Modern Newspaper.
There is a great opportunity en-
joyed by trade because of the de-
velopment of the modern newspaper
It brings the merchant and his
business before the whole public
and gives to both the consequent
distinction. The circumstance that
the trade of houses which advertise
the most largely and persistently
in the newspapers is always great-
est proves that the public are in-
terested in such announcements
when they are put in the vehicle to
which society now naturally looks
for the information. —Morristown
(N. J.) Chronicle.
A REMARKABLE CURE FOR
RHEUMATISM.
Westminster Cal. March 21
1894.—Home time ago on awaken-
ing one morning I found that I
had rheumatism in my knee so
badly that as I remarked to my
wife it would be impossible for me
to attend to business that day.
Remembering that I had some of
Chamberlain's Pain Balm in my
store I sent fora bottleand rubbed
the afflicted parts thoroughly with
it according to directions and with-
in an hour I was completely re-
lieved. One application had done
the business. It is the best lini-
ment on the market and I sell it
under a positive guarantee. R. T.
