COULDN’T TOUCH BRuWNIE.
Missionaries Defeated the Hourton
Swamp Angles Yesterday.
The Missionaries are in the game
again. They played at Houston
yesterday and the game is reported
to be the prettiest played in Hous-
ton this season. Ban Antonio won
the game by a score of 3to 2. The
Missionaries scored one run in the
flrst|tnning and the score was 1 to
0 up to the tiftn inning when the
Swamp Angle tallied twice mak-
ing the score 2 to 1 against Ban
Antonio. In the seventh inning
Garson’s innocents scored two
runs and Houston failed to make
an other run.
“Brownie” Chamberlin did the
honors and let Houston down with
four hits. Abbott received the
“Brownie” while Hughes was put
in right field where he made two
errors.
Graney covered third and did
good work in the field and also
with the stick.
The Missionaries play their last
game at Houston today. The new
pitcher Dolan is due for today’s
game. If he falls to arrive Garson
will have only “Old Cy” Mulkey
and the “Brownie” to pitch unless
he will put Abbott in until un-
til another pitcher is secured.
Other games yesterday resulted
as follows: At Galveston—Galves-
ton 8 Austin 7; at Fort Worth-
Fort Worth 6 Dallas 5; at Shreve-
port—Sherman 15 Shreveport 4.
It will be seen by these scores
that the much over-rated Dallas
and Shreveport teams are not
what they were cracked up to be
and that San Antonio is in it with
any of them.
It is Dangerous.
The accident on the Southern
Pacific at the Burleson street
crossing in which two horses were
killed and two men narrowly es-
caped with their lives has created
considerable comment among own-
ers and drivers of vehicles espe-
cially butchers dairymen and ice-
men.
The automatic gates at the rail-
road crossings are in operation
from 7 a. m. to 7 p. m. and the
balance of the time they are not
operated. Just before 7 in the
morning is the time when the
butchers dairymen and icemen do
most of their work delivering to
their customers and yesterday’s
accident occurred at 6:30 a. m. It
is also dangerous for vehicles to
drive over the tracks after 7 p. m.
as these gates are not in operation
after that hour.

A Correction.
During a flurry of excitement
yesterday in getting in so many
“scoops” such as “Railroad Smash-
ups” “Bank Robber Captured”
“Baby Burned” and “Two Sui-
cides” etc. all In one day the re-
porter for the Light made an error
in writing the article on the sui-
cide of Mr. Schmelter wherein it
was said that the firm of
Mayer A Schmelter had gone
under. This was a mistake
as Mr. Schmelter only with-
drew from the firm selling out to
a new partner. Mr. Max B. Mayer
as head of the new firm continued
the business and is today at the
head of the firm of Mayer A
Adler reputed to be one of the
strongest in the city in their line of
business.
There were only a few papers
printed when the error was discov-
ered by the manager and correct-
ed but as a misconstruction might
be placed on same by those who
would see even one copy this cor-
rection is published. The firm of
Mayer A Adler stand a No. 1.
