Aspermont School News
1908-1909
OUR WAY:—Think Clearly;
Will fearlessly; act immediately
Philipp Melauchthon was one
of the prime forces in placing
Germany at the head of the
world's educational monument.
May we not profit by following
some of the principles he advo-
cated? We think so; therefore,
we have striven to follow two of
his principles; as follows:
"There must not be too many
books used.
"There must not be too many
studies in the schools."
In trying to prune our course
of study, and adjust the different
branches, so that the tree may
be symmetrical, we have not al-
ways been able to inspire the
pupil with the importance of our
changes. We desire more of the
parent's thoughtful consideration
of this matter. We plead for
thoughtful co-operation.
Again, we look upon the basic
principles of an education as
being worthy of our first consid-
eration. Here the pupil again
fails oftimes to appreciate our
efforts. He can noj yet see that
a thorough mastery of addition,
subtraction, multiplication and
division should precede their
application to Bank Discount, etc¿
To this we invite your attention.
As we try to introduce these
needed principles of teaching,
we want you to lend the pupil
every encouragement possible.
Also, you must heartily agree
that our effort to stop the use of
a common drinking cup is time-
ly. In this line we are making
decided improvement. We found
here a tub. Into this the water
was poured. From this each
pupil dipped his cup of water;
and he was not always careful to
keep his hand from bathing
itself in the water. Now we
have a large reservoir which has
three faucets. Now each pupil
is expected to use his individual
cup,—and may escape the dan-
gers of common drinking cups.
We are striving for the better-
ment of conditions. Won't you
lend a helping hand?
Help us along the above lines
and your child will become inter-
ested. Then absence and tardi-
ness will decrease.
Talk to the pupil about the
school.
Travis Montgomery is over

Pay Your Poll Tax Now.
Citizens of Texas:
Submission is coming. Count
on that. Neyer in the history of
Texas has there been more ur-
gent and imperative need of a
prompt and unanimous obedience
to this patriotic duty than now.
The destiny of the greatest
State in the Union hangs measur-
ably in the balance this year.
This tax must be paid now. The
coming of Feb. 1st will disfran-
chise thousands. Let them no
be prohibitionists. Tell your
neighbor about this. Have your
pastor read it from the pulpit.
The liquor agents arebusy with
an unlimited fund. Some have
already been caught at their ne-
farious tricks and are in the toils
of the law, but they will, in spite
of this, pay thousands of poll taxes
in the next two weeks. Let Pro-
hibition Clubs, Good Citizenship
Clubs, Pastors Associations and
all other advocates of clean poli-
tics get busy. "Pay your own
poll tax with your own money."
The time is brief—DO IT NOW.
Singing Convention.
The Stonewall County Singing
Convention .will meet at Hooker

continue over Sunday. A special
invitation is extended to every-

Osborn, was poisoned and died
at Hamlin last week. As this
little dog was a faithful and only
companion with Barney on his
freighting trips to Hamlin, his
loss was deeply regretted.
Only 10 more days remain in
which to pay your poll tax. Get
busy! There may be some
special elections coming up in
which you will want to exercise
your right of suffrage.

It Will Stay There
"In my family medicine chest
no remedy is permitted to remain
unless it proves beyond a doubt
the best to be obtained for its
particular purpose. For treat-
ing all manner of skin troubles
such as Eczema, Tetter, Ring-
worm, etc., Hunt's Cure has held
its place for many years. I have
failed to find a surer remedy. It
cures itching instantly."
