MUST BUILD VIADUCT.
CITY COUNCIL TAKES ACTION IN
CROSSING MATTER.
An Ordinance Introduced Repealing
Grant to the Sunset to Lay An Ad-
ditional Track on Duval Street.
Only quarter of an hour was requir-
ed to transact the business before the
city council last night but in that
time an important matter was attend-
ed to which will afford relief to resi-
dents of Dlgnowity Hill. This con-
stated of the framing of an ordinance
introduced by Alderman Seidel rela-
tive to the construction of a viaduct
along Walnut street to prevent the
Interruption of traffic on streets cross-
ing the Southern Pacific tracks during
the progress of the switching of cars.
This ordinance is the result of an
agreement on the part of the lailroad
company to build a viaduct in consid-
eration of the granting of right-of-
way for an additional track on Duval
street. The viaduct matter has been
allowed to lag and the question was
revived by a communication 10 the
City Council from a resident ot Digno-
wlty Hill calling attention to a narrow
escaiie experienced by himself aud
wife at a crossing as they were re-
turning from church in a buggy. The
matter was fully discussed by the
memliers ot the council at the time
and It was decided to put the railroad
company on notice of the importance
of immediate attention in the matter.
Aiderman Seidel's ordinance is
for repealing one of the con-
ditions annexed to the grant
made to the Galveston. Har-
risburg * San Antonio Railway last
July of the right to lay an additional
track along Duval street to the east
yards of that company. The condi-
tion repealed reads as follows:
"Third: That the Galveston Har-
risburg & San Antonio Railway com-
pany shall construct a steel viaduct
across its tracks on Walnut street at a
point to be designated by said coun-
cil according to plans to be approved
by the City Engineer said work to be
commenced within JO days from the
date of the acceptance of the terms
of this ordinance and completed with-
in a reasonable time.”
The repealing ordinance was signed
by Alderman Albin Seidel J. K.
Lamm F. Terrell. J. P. Hickman F.
Weber R. F. Alexander Ed Drelss
and W. L. Richter. There was no dis-
cussion of tbe ordinance. Mayor
Hicks suggested that the ordinance go
over under the rules to give the peo-
ple interested an opportunity for a
hearing. There was no cbjection
made to this and the ordinance went
over to the next meeting.
It was 8:15 o'clock when the Council
was called to order by Mayor Hicks
with the following aldermen present:
Alexander Barker Hickman Lamm.
Richter Drelss O'Connor Seidel. Ter-
rell Peteet and Weber.
A petition of the Southwestern Tele-
phone & Telegraph company for per-
mission to place poles on lowa. Hack-
berry Plum and North Leona streets
was read and referred to the usual
standing committee.
Reports of standing committees
were called for. Aiderman Richter
chairman of the assessment commit
tee reported on a petition of the Par-
ker-Washington company for a cor
rection of assessment. It was stated
that the company had been erroneous-
ly assessed several thousand dollars
on the unrendered roll which valua-
tion had already been rendered.
Various minor matters were report-
ed upon.
Under the head of communications
from the Mayor and other city offi-
cers Mayor Hicks announced his re-
vision of the various standing com-
mittees of the council.
New business was then called for
Alderman Terrell submitted an or-
dinance in amendment of section 21
2:’ fit and 31 of chapter 2f. revised
code of civil ordinances of the City of
San Antonio. The provisions of the
ordinance change the time at which
the collector shall furnish his weekly
statement from 3 p. m. Saturday to 1
p. m. the following Monday: also the
date at which the city collector shall
adjust his accounts annually from
May 31 to July 31. It also provides
for identical numbering of occupation
tax receipts with corresponding li-
censes. The ordinance passed over
under the rules.
Aiderman Seidel’s ordinance was
the last matter up and there being
no further business before the conn
cil a motion was in order to adjourn
and the meeting closed at 8:30.

The Worst Form.
Multitudes are singing the praises of
Kadoi the new discovery which is mak-
ing so many sick people well and weak
people strong by digesting what they
cat by cleansing and sweetening the
stomach and by transforming their food
into the kind of pure rich red blood
that makes you feel good all over. Mrs.
Cranfill of Troy I. T. writes: For a
number of years I was troubled with in-
digestion aiid dyspepsia which grew into
the worst form. Finally I was induced
to use Kodol and after using four bot-
tles I am entirely cured. I heartily
recommend Kodol to all sufferers from
indigestion and dyspepsia. Take a dose
after meals. It digests what you eat.—
