Rusk Eagles split games with Kilgore, Wells in basketball action
Rusk's Eagles split a couple of
games last week. Coach Marks
Lanham's Birds lost a close ball
game to Kilgore last Tuesday, 40
to 34, and then bounced back strong
when they traveled to the Cushing
tournament against Latexo. It was
a convincing 66-33 win for Rusk.
Kyle Pickett was high point Bird
with nine points. Other Eagles get-
ting on the score board were:
Reginal McGowan, 7; Fredrick
Wickware, 3; Bradley Welch, 7;
Terraick Foreman, 3; Broderick
Session, 5; Anthony Garner, 7;
Steven Ross, 4; Faletoi Blalack, 7;
Akeem Leviston, 7; Brian Garner,
7.
The Rusk and Kilgore game was
a thriller. The teams were tied at
the end of the first quarter, but
Kilgore hit a hot streak in the
second stanza and scored 11 points
while holding the Eagles to only 5.
The third quarter was close.
Rusk made 8 points and Kilgore
hit for 9. The Feathered Flock
never stopped fighting and hit for
13 points, holding Kilgore to 9 in
the fourth period.
Brian Garner was high point
man for Rusk with 10 points. Other
Eagles making points were: Brad-
ley Welch, 2; Terraick Foreman, 3;
Steven Ross, 3; Luke Ocker, 6;
Faletoi Blalack, 6; Akeem
Leviston, 4.

Cushing tournament
Laneville won a close game over
the Rusk Eagles Saturday in the
Cushing Tournament 51-49.
Rusk led at the end of the first
quarter 11 to 8, and then built
their lead to 26 to 19 at the end of
the firBt half.
The third quarter was a differ-
ent story, however. Laneville came
back strong and hit for 14 points
and held the Eagles to only 8. The
fourth quarter was close with Rusk
hitting for 15 points and Laneville
making 18.
Final score was 51 to 49.
Rusk vs. Wells Pirates
Rusk Eagles defeated the Wells
Pirates 74 to 51 in the Cushing
Tournament over the weekend.
Rusk led 18 to 13 at the end of
the first quarter and built the lead
to 40-33 at the end of the first half.
Rusk came back strong in the
3rd quarter and hit for 16 points
while holding Wells to 8. Rusk hit
Lady Eagles look strong this season
with two big victories, one loss
Rusk's Lady Eagles took part in
the Lindale Tournament over the
weekend and came out with two
wins and their first loss of the
season to Longview.
Coach Larance Gardner's Lady
Birds began play with a very con-
vincing win over hapless Bullard,
70 to 26.
The Lady Eagles hit for 23 points
in the first quarter; 11 in the sec-
ond quarter, and then put the
game away with 23 more points in
the third quarter. Second string-
ers finished the fourth quarter and
hit for 11 points.
Bullard could only manage 8 in
the first quarter; 10 in the second;
2 in the third; and 6 in the fourth
quarter.
Monique Carter was high point
lady for Rusk with a total of 26
points. Krystal Ward and Pamela
Bourque made 8 points each.
Mychilette Carter and Raven
Gipson each made 7 points to lead
the Rusk attack.
A loss and bounce-back
The powerful Class 5-A
Longview Lady Lobos handed
coach Larance Gardner's Lady
Eagles their first taste of defeat in
the Lindale Tournament. The score
was Longview, 73 and Rusk, 46.
Rusk's Lady Eagles bounced
back and handed Class 4-A Kilgore
a 64 to 40 loss. This was Rusk's
last appearance in the Lindale
Tourney.
The first half of the game was all
Lady Eagles with Rusk making 17
points in the first quarter and then
hitting for 14 in the second to lead
34 to 20.
The Lady Birds came back strong
in the third quarter and hit for 16
points and closed out the fourth
quarter with 17 points.
Final score was Rusk 64 and
Kilgore, 40.
Monique Carter was truly out-
standing. This young lady scored
31 points for Rusk. Krystal Ward
was good for 16 points and Raven
Gipson dumped in 6 points for the
Lady Birds.
