Slick McKissick
Funeral for Howard (Slick)
McKissick Jr., 73, of Rusk was at
10 a.m. Thursday in the Wallace-
Thompson Funeral Home Chapel
with the Rev. Don Copeland offici-
ating. Burial was in Cedar Hill
Cemetery.
Mr. McKissick died Nov. 26 in a
Webster hospital. He was born
March 26,1927, in Mexia. He had
resided in Rusk for a year. He
formerly resided at Palestine and
Dickinson. He was retired from
McRee Ford in Dickinson as a ser-
vice manager.
Survivors are his wife of 25 years,
Linda Weaver McKissick of Rusk;
a son, Lindy McKissick of
Galveston; a daughter, Lee Wood
of Pasadena; two stepchildren,
Jerry McClure of Alto and Ginger
Rupprath of Texas City; two broth-
ers, James McKissick of Livingston
and Lank Simmons of Dickinson;
a sister, Janette Hall of Livingston;
six grandchildren; several nieces
and nephews.
Pallbearers were Kyle Weaver,
Dax Bowman, David Cannon,
David Parsons, Todd Glass and
Joe Weaver.

90, of Wells was at 2 p.m. Thurs-
day at Falvey Memorial United
Methodist Church in Wells with
the Rev. Jamie Lea officiating.
Burial was in Mount Hope Cem-
etery under the direction of Gipson-
Metcalf Funeral Directors of
Lufkin.
Mrs. DuBose died Nov. 27. She
was born Aug. 24, 1910, in San
Augustine County to the late Wil-
liam and Mary Jane Field Renfro.
She lived in Wells most of her life.

Funeral for Cordia Mae
Landrum, 91, of Rusk, was at 3
p.m. Friday in the Wallace-Th-
ompson Funeral Home Chapel
with the Rev. Noy Pruitt
officiating. Burial was in Lynches
Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Landrum died Nov. 29 in a
Rusk nursing home. She was born
Oct. 22,1909, in Anderson County
and had been a Rusk resident for
Landrum
48 years. She was a member fo the
Rusk First United Methodist
Church and retired from Rusk
State Hospital food service.
Survivors are a son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Jimmy and Joann
Landrum of Baytown; a grandson
and his wife, Curt and Cathy
Landrum of Huntsville; and a
great-granddaughter, Caitlyn
Landrum of Huntsville.
Billle J. Wendell-Beasley
Funeral for Billie J. Wendell-
Beasley, 69, of Tyler, was at 11
u.m. Friday in the Wallace-Thomp-
son Funeral Home Chapel with
the Rev. Sherman Mayfield offici-
ating. Burial was in Salem Cem-
etery.
Mrs. Wendell-Beasley died Nov.
27 in Trinity Mother Frances Hos-
pital, Tyler. She was born March
30, 1931, in Wharton and had re-
sided in Tyler for 18 years. She
was a Baptist and a housewife.
She was preceded in death by
her mother, Martha Ann Haggard;
a brother, Larry Strawther; and a
son-in-law, Dick Coe.
Survivors are her husband, Rob-
ert A. Beasley of Tyler; two sons,
Henry O. Wendell III of Tyler and
Karl S. Wendell of Tyler; three
daughters and two sons-in-law,
Karla and Bobby Fontenot of
Eunice, La., Karrie and Stanley
Baggett of Tyler and Kristine Coe
of Tyler; two brothers and a sister-
in-law, Robert Strawther of
Bastrop and Jimmy and Betty
Strawther of Rusk; a sister and
brother-in-law, Johnnie and
Donald Kemp of Lumberton; 10
grandchildren; two great-grand-
children; 14 nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Patrick Boyle,
Scott Coe, Todd Coe, Steven
Wallace, Andy Beasley and Bill
Kemp.

Velma Hill Hood
Funeral for Velma (Hill) Hood,
81, of Rusk was at 2:00 p.m. Tues-
day in the Wallace-Thompson Fu-
neral Home Chapel with the Rev.
Don Copeland officiating.
Burial was in Lowe's Cemetery
in Rusk.
Mrs. Hood died Dec. 2, in East
Texas Medical Center Jackson-
ville. She was born Jan. 31, 1919,
in Lufkin, to the late Cicero and
Jessie Hill. Mrs. Hood had resided
in Rusk since 1946. She was a
member of East Side Baptist
Church.
She was preceded in death by
her husband John Shelby Hood
Sr. and a daughter, Sherrie Tyra
of Rusk. Also preceding her in
death were seven brothers and sis-
ters, Florence Brock, Avis Murphy,
Clyde Hill, Clifton Dunn, Archie
Dunn and Ray Hill, all of Lufkin,
Morris Hill of Phoeniz,Ariz.
Mrs. Hood is survived by two
sons and daughters-in-law, Alan
Bruce and Sara Hood of
Henderson and John Shelby Jr.
and Laura Hood of Reklaw; two
daughters and a son-in-law, Janis
Nickle of Rusk and Kathryn and
Donald Johnson of Tyler; six sis-
ters and three brothers-in-law,
Sadie and Sam Martin, Jackie
McCall, Jane and Delbert
Lumbley, all of Lufkin, Mabel
Johnson of Pensacola, Fla., Cleo
and Johnny Cox of Maracaibo,
Venezuela, Ruth Crocker of Dal-
las, FayeGrissett of Freeport; and
one brother and sister-in-law,
Jerry and Ann Hill of Conroe. Mrs.
Hood had 21 grandchildren, 25
great-grandchildren, and one
great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Michael Foun-
tain, Lee Fountain, Brian Hood,
Brandon Hood, Dennis Matlock
and Jonathan Atkins. Honorary
pallbearers were Phillip Johnson,
Colter Hood, Ethan Johnson, An-
drew Johnson, Brendon Gaige,
Jason Beasley.

Mrs. Brown died Dec. lina Tyler
hospita}. She was born Dec. 11,
1933, in Mount Olive, Miss. She
h;ad resided in Rusk for 20 years
and previously resided in Jack-
sonville. She was a member of the
Timberline Unitarian Universal-
i$t Fellowship of Lufkin. She was
a psychotherapist and family
therapist.
Survivors are her husband, Dr.
DanM. Brown of Rusk; her mother,
Burnest Ross of Beaumont; two
stepsons, Dr. David Brown of Colo-
rado Springs, Colo, and Don Brown
of Fortuna, Calif.; two stepdaugh-
ters, Dana Martin of Okmulgee,
Okla. and Debbie Zellner of
Moorestown, N.J.; two sisters,
Jerry Landry of Beaumont and
Burnest Hahn of North Carolina;
a cousin, John Gentry of Houston;
and 12 step-grandchildren.

Odom, both Rusk natives. He mar-
ried Doris Barnes in 1934 and they
lived in Rusk until they moved to
San Antonio in 1937.

The Old Palestine Cemetery
Assoc. is anxiously awaiting the
arrival of ita historical marker for
the cemetery. At this time, the
inscription is being written, The
caretaker, Mr. Garza, is cleaning
some of the old headstones in the
cemetery. When driving through
the cemetery be sure and notice
some of the real old markers. They
are cleaning beautiñilly. Those
who see Mr. Garza in the cem-
etery, should be sure and thank
him for a job well done. Thanks to
him, the cemetery looks good at all
times.

The Cherokee County A&M
University Mothers' Club (better
known as Aggie Moms) will have
their regular monthly meeting
Monday, December 11, at 7 p.m.,
at the First United Methodist
Church, 416 S. Bonner St. in Jack-
sonville. This is a change from
their usual first Monday of the
month meeting night. The church
is located at the intersection of
Larissa St. (Old Highway 79) and
S. Bonner St.
They will be having a brief busi-
ness meeting, followed by an orna-
ment exchange and Christmas
treats. Each person is asked to
bring an ornament to exchange,
and a holiday appetizer or snack
to share.
We will meet
every Thurs-
day at noon but
there will not
be an evening
meeting this
month. All are
at noon. Don't
forget our new
location next
door to the dol-
lar store on Highway 84 West.
Lion Steve Slover and his guest
Judy Dudley were our program
Thursday. Both were in their cos-
tumes for the play which was last
weekend. Lion Steve looked good
in his period dress but Ms. Dudley
looked like Scarlet O'Hara. Beau-
tiful!
We had a drawing and Lion Billy
Watson won two tickets to the play.
Lion Adam Tanner presided over
the drawing.
On Thursday, Dec. 14, Mrs.
Winski will bring the high school
choir to present Christmas carols'
for our program. Come roar with
us. Visitors are always welcomed.
