At ETMC bypass surgery
¡sa hole new
ballgame.
1When arteries are too small to accept a bypass graft,
TMR - transmyocardial revascularization - creóles
new blood vessels, and new hope, for heart patients.
m

•• ■
Tlie lieart is a miraculous orpjn. But
wlien coronary arteries ate uairawed
01 blocked, limiting the flow of blood
and oxygen to tills seemingly tireless
muscle. Hie results are painful - and
potentially devastating.
For most patients with coronaiy
artery disease, coronaiy bypass sir
gery can restore blood flow to the
heart and restore Hie patient to
health. But for some patients -
those who might have had previous
bypass sui^eiy, or whose hearts
have areas In which tlie vessels are
too small to graft - the ETMC
Cardiovascular Institute offers an
exciting new option: transmyocar-
dial revascularization, or TMR.
Using a specialized laser, the caiv
diovascular surgeon creates veiy
small diannels - holes - In the heart
muscle. These holes make new
blood vessels grow into those areas
of the lieart where tlie arteries previ-
ously were too small. The result?
Tissues which were starving for oxy-
gen receive the blood flow they
need. And for the patient, that
means relief from angina - chest
pain - and hope for a full recovery.
the ETMC Cardiovascular Institute
participated In one of the research
studies which led to the approval of
this wonderful new procedure. And
ETMC was the highest enrolling cen-
ter that participated In the study.
If you or someone you love
might benefit from TMR, talk
with your physician or call the
ETMC Cardiovascular Institute at
