Enhanced Childcare Programs Evolve at Coppell YMCA
The Coppell Family YMCA
has evolved to meet the child
care needs of the children and
youth in the community.
Club Y started out being a
small program for youth ages six
to 12, with the thought that this
age group could be separated
from the younger children and
have a “place of their own.”
During the infancy of the pro-
gram, five-year olds were also
allowed to participate.
The children enjoy high en-
ergy games along with a variety
of activities like art and cooking
instructions. The facilities at Club
Y include games like Wii and
Playstation 2, the climbing wall,
and the sports wall. The Club Y
now has extended hours and a
schedule is posted for all age
groups to ensure the parents and
children know which activities
will be offered during their visit.
Due to the volume and ac-
tivities and to ensure the safety
of all the participants, Club Y re-
verted back to its original age
group of six to 12 years, provid-
ing an opportunity to form a tran-
sition group called Club 5, appro-
priately named by one of the
young participants. Club 5 is for
children ages four to six and its
purpose is to prepare them to go
into Club Y when they turn
seven.
The YMCA Child Watch has
evolved as well, based on feed-

has been introduced that includes
art, crafts, bounce house, space

also provides for time to feed the
kids a snack or a meal provided
by the parents. This helps to
avoid allergy issues as well as
children sharing snacks or want-
