Building
Defaced
On Square
The east side of the Downtown
Deli building, located on the south
side of the square, was spray painted
sometime after 4:00 A.M. Sunday
morning. Derogatory, racial and
anti-Semitic words were printed
on the wall of the building.
Police Chief Bill Yoss stated that
vandalism and defacing of prop-
erty of this type was usually per-
formed by one of three types of
people. It may be done by an un-
successful, maladjusted, misfit
who, upset by his own failures,
strikes out at and blames another
racial, social or religious group from
his own for his personal failures.
He stated that this would be the
most dangerous and malicious type
to perform such vandalism. Or, this
type of vandalism may be carried
out by juvenile pranksters or done
as the result of a dare.
Yoss believes that in this case,
the vandalism was done by youths
ranging in age between thirteen
and fifteen. "We have questioned
four youths in regard to this," he
stated. "In any event I feel sure this
was a thoughtless, juvenile prank.
