FCA Officers Attend Leadership Camp

The officers of Leonard High
School's Fellowship of Christain
Athlete Huddle recently attended
the Fellowship of Christian Ath-
letes National Leadership confer-
ence. The week-long conference
was held July 10-14 on the campus
of Hardin-Simmons University in
Abilene, Texas.
During the week, workshops
were held regarding how to play
the dating game God's way, how to
be a Christian and know it, and how
to be better leaders in school.
The theme for this year's confer-
ence was "Be Strong and Coura-
geous," Joshua 1:9.
Attending from Leonard were
Judd Marshall, President; Jennifer
Dowell, vice-president; Clint Scrib-
ner, secretary; and Jami Evans,
treasurer.
The FCA appeciates the follow-
ing for their support of the local
FCA huddle: Barbara and Billy
Watson, Dr. Fred Mcdonough, The

Nessmith recently spent a week
fishing at Tuledo Bend, La. They
caught lots of catfish. Pictured
above is a large turtle that Joey also

Jim Adams is a patient in a
Plano Hospital after suffering a
heart attack at his home last week.
Dorcas Sunday School Class
Eight members of the First Bap-
tist Dorcas Sunday School class
went to Poncho's in Plano for a
Mexican Food dinner Tuesday
night. Dottie Jean Taylor, teacher,
led in prayer before the meal. After
enjoying good food, relaxing and
good a talk, they all went shopping
at Target. Others attending were
Luda Medley, Vera Atnip, Mary
Ruth Edwards, Joy Teague,
Mildred Fowler, Pat Boyles and
Dale Sudderth.

The Verona United Methodist
Church announces a gospel con-
cert to be held Saturday, July 29
from 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. Merle and
the Gospel Four from Dallas will
be in concert.
On Sunday, July 30 through
Wednesday, August 2 will be the
revival services beginning at eight
o’clock. The Evangelists for the
series will be Rev. Gene Gordon of
Dallas on Sunday; John Lancaster
D.T. Officers Receive
Superior Rating
The Leonard High School Tiger-
ette Dance/Drill Team officers at-
tended the American Drill team
School's officers camp on the
campus of Southern Methodist
University in Dallas, Texas.
In addition to learning dance,
kick, military, and prop routines,
the officers were instructed in lead-
ership, teaching proper kick tech-
nique, developing creative chore-
ography, teaching and critiquing,
problem solving, motivating your
team, and nutrition/weight control.
The LHS officers received a su-
perior rating on their Home Rou-
tine, an excellent rating on their
choreography evaluation, and a
superior rating on their dance evalu-
ation.
Captain Jennifer Hailey re-
cieved a special award given for
exceptional efforts and hard work.
Co-captain Shelly Hallmark,
Lieutenants , Whitney Garlington
and Karen Davis received individ-
ual ribbons for effort, attitude, pro-
jection, learning ability and dance
ability.
At the closing awards ceremony,
the Tigerette officers were awarded
a trophy for receiving superior rat-
ing in the Home Routine and the
final Dance Evaluation.
Accompanying thte officers was
their director, Becky Kegans. At-
tending Home Routine and Final
Evaluation were Beverly Hallmark,
Patti, Bonnie, and "Pee Wee" Fel-
met.

of Princeton - Wednesday.
The pastor Rev. Jim McIntire
extends a personal invitation to the
public to attend these services.
LOCAL
Jeffrey L. Taylor, son of Leo J.
and Jan S. Taylor of Leonard, has
been promoted in the U.S. Army to
the rank of sergeant.
Taylor is an air defense gunnery
crewmember with the 5th Air De-
fense Artillery, Fort Hood, Texas.
He is a 1983 graduate of Allen
High School, Texas.
