When Vivian Cline came to the
Leonard Nursing Home, it was
brand new and the patients were
doing their own laundry in the
laundry room(that is now the
Beauty Salon). They were also help-
ing out in the kitchen and dining
room- if they were physically able,
they did their own hair, their own
beds, and walked around the
grounds in their leisure time.
This was over twenty years ago
when her husband Charley first
became a patient there-after his
death she continued to stay at the
home and help out any way that she
could.
She now has a hair dresser to do
her hair and there’s now a dietician
and cooks to prepare atll the foods,
but those are about the only things
that she allows to be done for her.
She’s quite busy keeping her home
type room neat for herself or any-
one sharing her room and this lady
is in her nineties-To be exact, she
will be 95 on her birthday.
Everyone needs a hobby to keep
them busy and Vivian Cline chooses
to cut and piece quilts by hand and
is paid to do many of these by
friends and relatives. She says she
has pieced over a hundred since she
has been there, some of these she
has pieced for gifts.
She does not do this "hand-
pricken" job for money, she really
enjoys the satisfaction of keeping
herself busy and pleasing many
people at the same time.
In the year 1907 , When Vivian
was fourteen years of age, she
became the bride of Charley Cline
and they spent their honeymoon at
Wyland where they lived until their
first son, R.L. Cline was 6 years
old, then they moved to the area of
Battle Ox South of Greenville.
Another family member was an at-
torney in Oklahoma, Bobby Ann
Moore, who is the daughter of the
cousin Robert Ingram that she
raised, who was a veteran of World
War II. He was in a band overseas
and helped pick up the wounded,
receving some medals.
Since then, after two retire-
ments, he’s home in Leonard and
spends most evenings cutting the
quilt blocks for Vivian to peice
together by hand. Having Glau-
coma, she doesn’t see as well as she
used too and this is very helpful to
her.
Vivian and Charley’s daughter is
Mrs. George (Aline) Smith of Le-
onard whose husband is a Justice
of of the Peace here. Aline visits
her mother regularly and helps her
with her hair needs or other needs
that she might have. Vivian is
always glad to have her friends
drop by for a visit and chat and all
the residents appreciate this too.
