with more than $500 being raised through voluntary contributions by Boys Town citizens and staff

JAMESTOWN , New York
(AP) — Kidnaping and murder
charges have been dismissed
against two of three teen-agers
arrested in the abduction-
slaying of 14-year-old Daniel
Ebersole of Jamestown, New
York.
Eighteen-year-old Kenneth
Williams of West Ellicott, and
18-year-old Jeffrey Swan of
Lakewood, were freed
yesterday after a judge ruled
evidence presented at a
preliminary hearing failed to
link the two to the charges.

also had good defensive games.

St. John’s Crusaders moved
into sole possession of first
place in District 2AAA as a
result of a 44-35 victory over
Bishop Dunne of Dallas. The
Saints (5-0) take a full game
second half. The defense was a
joint effort of Patti Zmolik,
Cindy Kubala, Carolyn Toth and

peared Jan. 8 after telling his
parents he was gonig to a
nearby teen center. His body
was found five days later near
West Ellicott.
Ransom calls demanded 15-
thousand dollars from the
youth’s father, Dr. Glen
Ebersole, a prominent
physician.
Dr. Ebersole left the ransom
behind a car agency Jan. 11.
The FBI said 14-thousand 660-
dollars of the money was found
in the West Ellicott home of 19-
year-old Martin Whitmore.
Both Swan and Williams
admitted in sworn statements to
FBI agents that they par-
ticipated in picking up the
money, but denied knowing
kidnaping or murder was in-
volved.
Assistant district attorney W.
Mark Catchpole said lesser
charges would be filed against
the two at a later date.

WASHINGTON
Today’s
Constitutional Convention
Delgate Ron Clower of this
district introduced two im-
portant constitutional proposals
early this week for con-
sideration by the convention.
One of Clower’s proposals
relates to the seperation of
church and state and reads:
“The State shall make no law
tha shall restrict, infringe or
suppress the worship of
almighty God in work or deed.”
Clower, who is a state
senator from District 9, said
this action is in response to the
activities of the Texas
Association of Christian Schools
who have gathered more than
26.000 signatures on petitions
asking for a clear separation of
church and state in the
proposed new constitution.
‘I did not submit this proposal
as an amendment to our Bill of
Rights because under the
provisions of the amendment
which set up the current Bill of
Rights could not be altered in
any manner, so I am submitting
this proposal as an amendment
to Article III, Section II relating
our constitution should -----
guarantee this right and will
worrk for its inclusion in the SOUTH BEND, Indiana —
proposed new state charter.” Notre Dame basketball coach
Washington “Post” quotes
informed sources as saying

previously unreported wiretaps
to Bills. I am convinced that
Northwest Passaged
The second proposal
presented by Clower this week
requires that all political
subdivisions of the state be
divided into single member
districts for the election of
representatives to the govern-
ment bodies of those entities.
“There are too many local
governing boards in our towns
and cities which are not
representative of the people
who are subject to their actions
which often involve such im-
portant issues as taxing and
zoning. Single member districts
for the election of represen-
tatives to the various governing
bodies of this state will insure
equitable representation,
whereas the at-large election
system used by many such
bodies does not insure full
representation.”
All the proposals submitted
by delegates to the convention
will be assigned to the ap-
propriate committees for
consideration who will then
present their recommendations
to the convention for
ratification.
Digger Phelps isn’t one to
revamp a successful strategy.
Espcially one that gained his
team a stunning victory last
Saturday over previously top-
ranked UCLA. So it's no sur-
prise that Phelps plans to start
the same five men against the
now-number-two Bruins in
their rematch tomorrow night
in Los Angeles.
