"The Happy Jones Girls" are
giving fine shows at the Dixie
all this week.
For nearly a week I have been
on the Brasos river, observing
things generally. The flood is to
great for me to describe, it has
distroyed millions of dollars
worth of property, and no doubt
many human lives. Yet we don't
know r.t this Writing of any one
for sure that is drowned. Many
have been pened up in gin houses
that have suffered much for the
necessities of life, especially for
something to eat. The people of
town and country, have done the
best they could for them, in res
curing and feeding. Many have
taken their lives in their hands
as it was, to rescue those who
were liable to drown. I know of
no man that has done as much
along this line as F. E. King, and
that wpitjhout money or price
He informs me that he never
charged any person anything
for his services either at his
home or upon the water. There
was one house that floated for
quite a distance with twenty
people in it that was -.run 1
late Friday evening, they were
Italian people. The railroad
bridge at Stone City was of
great service in íescuring the
people, a great deal of the dump
r Stone City, was washed
away, the interurban road is torn
to piece, and the pieces twisted
and turned in a ureat many
shapes. Many houses washed
away near Stone City as well as
else where* The provision that
was sent out by | eople of Cald-
well and put in charge of F. E-
King and Jacob Fuchs is being
dished out according to the needs
of the people. There has been
so many people left destitute of
everything. The Lord only
knows how they sre going
to be supplied, time will only
tell.
At this writing there are a
great many still pend up in gin
bouses up and down the river,
guess they will get out soon, the
river is falling very slow. At
Stone City it was five or six feet
higher than it was in 1809, it
broke the levee in many plsces
on Thursday night the 4th, it
was no more than a broom straw
in its wsy. I will stop for this
time and wait for another week
for developments. Observer.
