J J. MeCaslaml was in Tues-
day and told of the narrow es-
cape of Mitt Parker, who with
several others were in an
old store house formerly occu-
pied by Great-house, and it col-
lapse 1 leaving them all at the
mercy of the raging waters,
and Mitt while floating away
grubbed hold of a post, and these
upstairs in the two story house
near by threw him a rope and
pulled him up into ihe house.
Mr. Elliott, and two darkies who
were also in the house that col
apsed managed to get to safety
>V catching on trees and climb
ng up in them. A darkey was
also in from there and told of
having been on t •;> of a house
for two days without food, and
said that, many were drowned
without any doubt as he saw sev-
eral gj down himself. The
water cent'nuos to go down and
things ara getting normal again,
although many will have t> ba
helped as they lost everything
they possessed.
