NORTH ELEMENTARY kindergarten classes were visited
by a "Leprechaun" March 14. The visitor came to help
the children celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The children
were intrigued by the vistor’s stories and produced treats
for them.
Mrs. Pamela Williams and kindergarten mothers pro-
vided the treats and Mrs. William was the leprechaun.

Fire Department
JIMMY BURNETT
Forty calls for help were answered in March by the
White Settlement Volunteer Fire Department. There were
four building fires extinguished. Three grass fire were
put under control and two car fires were extinguished.
The department made 24 Emergency Medical Service
(EMS) calls. Most were for people with heart conditions.
Fifteen firemen are especially trained to answer these
emergency calls. They have taken a 60-hour classroom
training course, supervised by a state authorized in-
structor. (Burnett is a licensed Emergency Medical Tech-
nician and qualified instructor).
The fire department is the unit of first response to all
emergencies. They respond to all major accident calls.
There were seven such occasions in March. The EMS
men are trained in vital signs, cardio pulmonary resus-
citation (CPR), oxygen therapy, bandaging and splinting.
