Senator visits Medina Dam
U.S. Senator Phil Gramm
made a 20-minute stop at
the Medina Lake dam Dec.
29; long enough to back a
huge renovation project for
BMA and proclaim his dis-
like of cedar trees.
BMA director John Ward
said Gramm from the begin-
ning has been supportive of
PL-566, a plan to use federal
money to help with the ren-
ovations.
BMA has plans for $48
million in renovations to 109
miles of canal and 32 miles
of pipeline.
The new upgrades are
expected to save approxi-
mately 33,700 acre-feet of
water per year.

now.
"He just wanted to take a
look and speak some posi-
tive things for this plan,”
Ward said.
Once Gramm said his
piece, the floor was open for
questions, but they didn’t
directly center on Gramm’s
visit to the area.
When asked why the dam
gates were closed now, the
Senator replied he would
look into the problem.
Other issues centered on
his view of thinning cedars.
Gramm said he was in full $
support of the project.
Gramm appeared with his
wife, Wendy.
