But he said, “We will, of
course, be talking to enlisted

they get the drugs.”
He said “We have already

WASHINGTON-The Trinity
River Authority’s master plan
for development of water
resources is “the best protec-
tion the whole river basin could
have against future water
problems,” says Congressman
Olin Teague, of this district, a
staunch supporter of the
program throughout his years
in the Congress.
“People of the river basin--
and beyond-are fortunate to
have under way such a com-
prehensive program for
developing the water resour-
ce,” said Teague. “We hear and
talk about environment, and to
me the water resource,
properly developed and wisely
used, can do more to protect
and enhance the total en-
vironment than any other one
thing.”
Teague said that full
development of the Trinity has
been made necessary by the
burgeoning population and the
need for all its potential
benefits, such as recreation,
natural beauty, navigation,
flood control, water supplies for
towns and cities, rural job
opportunities, soil conservation,
wildlife propagation, pollution
control, and the preservation of
scenic and natural areas along
the stream and its tributaries.
“I shudder to think what the
river basin will be like 50 years
from now if we neglect its
development today,” said
Teague. “People must have
all the benefits of water
development, and the Trinity
program puts them on a per-
manent basis.”
Quick to concede that “there
isn’t enough federal money to
do everything people want,”
Teague said projects like the
Trinity are entitled to high
priority simply because quality
water is a wellspring of life and
growth-something that the
entire nation must have in ever-
increasing quantity.
He expressed optimism over
prospects that Congress this
year will appropriate at least $2
million to carry forward the
advanced engineering and
design of the Trinity multiple-
purpose channel started two
years ago. Also, he said he
would fight for first con-
structions funds next year if the
Corps of Engineers is ready for
them as now expected.
“There is nobody more
concerned with the en-
viromnment than am I.” said
the Congressman. “I take the
broad view that the overall total
benefits of Trinity development
are far too great, and im-
portant, to neglect a this time.
The costs are high, but the
benefits are far greater and the
stakes are higher.”
