All in the Family — Oakland style
A’s eclipse the Gashouse Gang
By Murray Olderman

OAKLAND, Calif. - (NEA)
— The Oakland Athletics,
let’s face it, are not a nice
bunch of guys.
Individually, yes — for the
most part. But collectively
they snipe and snarl, rail and
rip, pout and pop off. They
even fight.
Almost always, among
themselves.
From this miasma of tur-
bulence has come, incredibly,
two straight world cham-
pionships. And fuming and
fussing with each other as
energetically as ever, they
stand primed to make it three
straight. /
Only the other day, super
star Reggie Jackson and Bill

Lambing Is Guest
Speaker for Kiwanis
At the noon meeting of the
Ennis Kiwanis Club Thursday
an interesting program was
presented by guests and
members. After the invocation
Jim Cole introduced the guest
speaker, Bill Lambing.
An interesting sidelight was
the ‘mock trial’ of Rev. Harold
W. Barns ... It seems that
recently the club had had a fish
fry and Warden Lambing stated
that he had sent some of the fish
remains to Austin and had them
analized and they proved to be
from crappie and bass ... which
are both illegal for retail sale in
Texas. Members came to his
rescue with the fact that the fish
had not been sold ... that they
came free with the salad.
Guests at the meeting were ..
Bill Lambing, area game
warden, Bryan Atwood, Dr.
Reel and Elmer Fincher from
the Ennis Daily News. K.F.
Farnham is with the Corps of
Engineers.
“Hell no,” said Blue Moon.
And they had to be separated.

The Ennis Lionbackers Club
will sponsor a charter bus
project to take Lion fans to the
scrimmage game which is
scheduled for Friday night,
August 30. Last year,
Nacogdoches came to Ennis
and this will be a return
“match”.
Project chairman Don Wash-
burn' stated the cost will be
practically the same as having
to drive your own car and is
hopeful many fans will take
advantage of this means to go to
the scrimmage. For those
making the bus trip, a planned
picnic with the football team
will be held after the scrim-
mage before returning to Ennis.
There will be more details
later but now’s the time to start
making reservations. Mr.
Washburn stated that with the
football fever as exists in Ennis,
it’s possible two or three buses
will be needed and urged all
interested to call him at 875-8311
or 875-3594 for more details.
