TAKE OVER MUTUAL
LIFE POLICIES?
NORTH BRITISH AND MERCAN-
EMORY WCLINTOCK INCREDULOUS
Vice President of Mutual Taken by
Associated Press.
New York May 14.—The Tribune
today says:
Emory McClintock vice president
of the Mutual Lite Insurance com-
pany. who Is In charge of the com-
pant's agency business in all parts
of the world was astonished last
night when shown a cable message
trout London saying that the N'ortn
l.rltish and Mercantile company
might take over the policies of the
Mutual Lite amounting to $4&.<*00.-
00b. was read to him. He said be
was not prepared to believe that the
British company had agreed to every-
thing It was represented as having
offered. When Mr. McClintock had
recovered from his surprise he said:
May Not Be True.
"That is certainly remarkable but
ft may not be true. I feel confident
that the policyholders will not ent r
into any such arrangement in any
great number. A very small propor-
tion of the policyholders will be de-
ceived by it It would be the worst
thing they could do. They would get
no mote safety and worse results.
"Any policy holder who has been !n
the Mutual Life for any length of
time would lose the benefit of all be
has raid into the company. In the
first place although that cable mess-
age makes the announcement to the
contrary the North British and Mer-
cantile will not accept such policy-
holders without medical examina-
tion."
Claim preposterous.
"That D C. Haldeman former
manager In London for the Mutual
anil who It is announced will join the
North British and Mercantile com-
pany. could take over much of the
business of the Mutual to another
company Mr. McClintock said was
preposterous.
He added that he did not see how
I any respectable company would en-
gage in such an enterprise A week
ago Mr. McClintock had arranged to
sail for Europe on Tuesday of next
; week in order to try to straighten out
the situation in England and per-
suade the French government to
1 resell d some cf the restrictions It
; has placed on American Insurance
companies doing business there He
said the news from London would
I not hasten his departure.
When this pews was communicated
1 to Famuel Cntcmever he is reported
'to have carried Hsnatches to London
i advising the various Interests he ren-
' resents to try to persuade the policy-
holders not to surrender their poll-
